CV NEWS FEED // A recently-released Harvard CAPS – Harris Poll survey found that vast majorities of Americans support key priorities of the second Trump administration, including its policies addressing the border crisis and “transgenderism.”
An overwhelming 81% of the survey’s respondents indicated that they supported “Deporting immigrants who are here illegally and have committed crimes,” a long-held priority of both President Donald Trump and his White House Border Czar Tom Homan, a Catholic.
Although the deportation of criminal illegal migrants is now often treated as a conservative stance, leaders on the political Left such as 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama have taken the same stance prior to Trump’s entry into electoral politics.
The poll from the Harvard Center for American Political Studies (CAPS) and The Harris Poll was conducted Feb. 19 and 20. Seventy-six percent – just over three out of four – of its respondents expressed support for “Closing the border with added security policies that discourage illegal crossings.”
The poll also found that 69% of respondents supported “banning men who have undergone operations and hormones to become women from girls’ sports.”
Last week, Trump and Democratic Maine Gov. Janet Mills sparred over the issue of men competing in women’s sports when the president warned that his administration would withhold federal funding from the state if it did not comply with a Feb. 5 executive order he signed.
Mills responded to Trump’s warning, “See you in court.” Shortly thereafter, a 2022 video of Mills participating in a drag show resurfaced.
Sixty-eight percent of the poll’s respondents indicated that they supported Trump’s declaration “that there are only two genders male and female in all government forms and programs.”
The poll additionally showed across-the-board support for a host of the Trump’s administration’s other policies.
Seventy-six percent of respondents supported “Undertaking a full-scale effort to find and eliminate fraud and waste in government expenditures” – the main objective of the administration’s new Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Sixty-five percent supported the elimination of “all preferences by race in the hiring and awarding of government contracts.”
Sixty-one percent favored “Placing reciprocal tariffs on countries that have tariffs on US goods.”
