CV NEWS FEED // The Trump administration’s Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued a memo this week ordering the end of all federal “programs that use taxpayer money to promote or reflect gender ideology” by 5:00 p.m. EST Friday.
The memo from OPM Acting Director Charles Ezell noted that the directive was issued in compliance with an executive order President Donald Trump signed on the first day of his second term titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” or simply “Defending Women.”
The OPM is the independent agency that oversees civilian federal government employees. The OPM director is nominated by and answers directly to the President of the United States.
Ezell’s memo was sent to all the heads and acting heads of federal departments and agencies. It instructed them, by the Friday deadline, to “send an email to all agency employees announcing that the agency will be complying” with Trump’s order.
It then instructed the department and agency heads to “review all agency programs, contracts, and grants, and terminate any that promote or inculcate gender ideology.”
“Send a notification to all employees whose position description involves inculcating or promoting gender ideology that they are being placed on paid administrative leave effective immediately,” the memo continued.
Additionally, the OPM memo ordered that all federal government websites and social media pages “that inculcate or promote gender ideology” be taken down.
Furthermore, the document stressed that, going forward, the federal government will recognize the sexes – male and female – over the concept of “gender.”
“Review all agency forms that require entry of an individual’s sex and ensure that all list male or female only, and not gender identity,” the memo went on. “Remove requests for ‘gender’ and substitute requests for ‘sex.’”
The memo finally directed the department and agency heads to “ensure that intimate spaces designated for women, girls or females (or for men, boys, or males) are designated by biological sex and not gender identity.”

Also Friday, ABC News reported that employees “at multiple federal agencies were ordered to remove pronouns from their email signatures” by that day’s afternoon pursuant to Trump’s day-one executive orders.
In “Defending Women,” which Trump signed on Jan. 20 hours after taking the oath of office, the president declared: “Efforts to eradicate the biological reality of sex fundamentally attack women by depriving them of their dignity, safety, and well-being.”
“The erasure of sex in language and policy has a corrosive impact not just on women but on the validity of the entire American system,” he added. “Basing Federal policy on truth is critical to scientific inquiry, public safety, morale, and trust in government itself.”
“It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female,” Trump wrote later in the order. “These sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.”
‘’Sex’ shall refer to an individual’s immutable biological classification as either male or female,” Trump elaborated. “‘Sex’ is not a synonym for and does not include the concept of ‘gender identity.’”
