CV NEWS FEED // CatholicVote on Tuesday sent a letter and launched a petition directed at Sens. Bob Menendez, D-NJ, and Elizabeth Warren, D-MA, confronting them over their recent incendiary language against pro-life pregnancy resource centers.
“We write to express our outrage at your call to shut down pregnancy resource centers
(PRC’s),” the letter states:
Your mendacious rhetoric is anti-woman and would in fact drastically limit the choices of pregnant mothers. It is true that PRC’s discourage women from abortion. Their mission is to empower women who want to carry their children to term by eliminating the barriers that stand in their way.
Warren recently raised eyebrows by condemning pregnancy resource centers as “fake clinics” that deceive women in crisis pregnancy situations. Lamenting that in some areas these clinics outnumber abortion clinics, Warren called for Democrats to “crack down” on the pro-life centers.
Critics have pointed out that the clinics in question provide many services to support new mothers – resources that abortion groups like Planned Parenthood do not provide. In addition, the the harsh rhetoric of Warren and other Democrats has struck many as alarmingly distasteful in light of the fact that pro-life clinics are currently experiencing a nationwide rash of violent attacks and vandalism from pro-abortion groups.
As CatholicVote has documented in its violence tracker, which records attacks on pro-life organizations: “More than 50 pregnancy resource centers and offices of pro-life groups have been attacked and vandalized since a draft Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe v. Wade was leaked in early May.”
CatholicVote’s petition also argues that the repeal Roe vs. Wade should motivate public officials to further support pro-life clinics rather than denigrate them – regardless of those officials’ stance on abortion:
The fact is that Roe v. Wade has been overturned, and abortion is now outlawed or restricted in about half of the United States. PRC’s have been ready for this moment for decades. They fill the gap for pregnant moms that it would take the government years to patch.
“At a time when pregnancy resource centers are needed most, they are under attack by
pro-abortion domestic terrorists who are burning down and vandalizing clinics, threatening
and intimidating clinic staff (most of whom are volunteers), and targeting their donors,” the petition concludes:
Your rhetoric adds fuel to the fire of abortion terrorism. Do not limit women’s choices. Stop the attacks on pregnancy resource centers.
