To Senators Warren and Menendez:
Your call to shut down pregnancy resource centers (PRC’s) is anti-woman and would in fact drastically limit the choices of pregnant mothers.
It is true that PRC’s discourage women from abortion. Their stated mission is to empower women who want to carry their children to term by eliminating the barriers that stand in their way.
The fact is that Roe vs. Wade has been overturned, and abortion is now outlawed or restricted in about half of the United States. PRC’s have been ready for this moment for decades. They fill a gap for pregnant moms that it would take the government years to patch.
Today, over 2,700 PRC’s across all 50 states serve millions of women from all walks of life regardless of race, religion, marital status, or income.
They provide
- free, or low-cost crucial health services, including pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and STD/I testing, and counseling
- much-needed education for fathers and mothers, including parenting and prenatal education programs, breastfeeding consultations, childbirth classes, job placement assistance, and more
- financial and material assistance, including free baby supplies (such as diapers and formula), clothing, debt repayment assistance, adoption assistance services, transportation help, and free housing assistance
And you want to deprive women of these desperately needed resources at this critical time? Who do you think will replace these centers?
Does Planned Parenthood provide free diapers, clothing, and financial aid?
And to Senator Menendez: You have campaigned on your Catholic faith, but this attack on PRC’s – many of which are funded and staffed by faithful Catholics – is a betrayal of your Church.
Do not restrict women’s choices.
Stop your political attacks on pregnancy resource centers.
