Heroes & Zeroes of the Month

HEROES

Arlington Bishop Michael Burbidge

A recent Alabama Supreme Court decision involving in-vitro fertilization (IVF) caught many Republicans and conservatives flat-footed. Republicans sensed that the Democrats and the corporate media would exploit the issue to punish pro-life candidates across the board.

But there is still a need to educate Catholics and all Americans about how the IVF industry exploits women and degrades human dignity. Bishop Michael Burbidge, the president of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, acted like a true shepherd in March. He stepped up and described clearly why IVF is not the answer for couples struggling with infertility. “In efforts to bring about new life, we cannot turn our face from the many more lives that are cut short and extinguished in the process,” Burbidge said.

Senator Marco Rubio

The senator from Florida sent a public letter to President Joe Biden calling attention to the 400th attack on a Catholic church since 2020. Rubio demanded that Biden “speak out on the growing number of attacks on Catholic churches and make investigating, and fully prosecuting, these incidents an urgent priority.”

“These attacks are not random nor are they the result of a temporary lapse in judgment by perpetrators,” Rubio pointed out. “They are motivated by a deep and abiding animosity towards religious institutions and people of faith.” Rubio also noted that violence spiked following the 2022 leak of the Dobbs decision – with 143 attacks happening that year alone.

Archbishop Timothy Broglio

The Biden administration’s anti-family and anti-life policies earned a stern rebuke from the Archdiocese for the Military Services. Archbishop Timothy Broglio noted that the new permanent policy of the Department of Veterans Affairs allowing its medical centers to perform abortions in all nine months of pregnancy “is at odds with the notion that the military protects the innocent.”

“The notion that killing an unborn child can somehow be considered ‘medical or surgical care’ certainly violates the dignity of the human person and suggests that some lives are more important than others,” Broglio stated. “I deplore this decision that once more removes the right to life for the defenseless and inflicts untold physical and psychological trauma on mothers.”

ZEROES

President Joe Biden

Joe Biden became the first president ever to celebrate so-called “Transgender Day of Visibility” – an invented holiday to tout the drugs and surgeries used to mutilate children. Not only did Biden recognize the concocted holiday for a third year in a row, but even worse: He promoted it on the holiest Christian day of the year: Easter Sunday.

It’s clear that we are experiencing a new pagan cult that is smashing everything we hold sacred. And Biden – who didn’t even mention Christ’s resurrection on Easter – has made clear what he prioritizes.

El Paso Bishop Mark Seitz

The bishop representing the border town of El Paso, Texas, is accusing the state of Texas of “criminalizing” migrants. But that’s not true. Texas is simply supporting efforts to deport people who enter the country illegally – often with the help of exploitative and dangerous cartels that attack the dignity of genuinely vulnerable migrants.

What Texas is doing is in full compliance with existing federal law. But Seitz wants Texas to change its ways and follow the Biden administration in ignoring federal law altogether. That’s what gave us an open border, and led us to our present crisis – leaving hundreds of thousands of migrants suffering from mass exploitation while causing chaos and disruptions in our own country.

Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough

The Biden administration’s continued assault on human life gathered more steam this last month with the help of the “Catholic” secretary of Veterans Affairs, Denis McDonough. In a press release from his agency, the VA announced that it will “soon be able to provide [IVF] to eligible unmarried Veterans and eligible Veterans in same-sex marriages.”

McDonough said the “expansion” of IVF had “long been a priority for” the VA under his leadership.
