HEROES
Senator J.D. Vance, R-OH
This month Catholic Senator J.D. Vance, R-OH, spoke to the Senate about foreign policy – in particular no-end-in-sight funding for Ukraine and other entanglements. Drawing on his faith as a Christian, his experience as a veteran, his knowledge of history, and his time in public policy, Vance presented a clear picture and prophecy of what America’s current foreign aid policy portends for our future.
He compared American involvement in Ukraine with our involvement in Iran, asking his fellow senators to open their eyes to what history had to teach. Vance pointed to the destruction of Christian communities in the East as a prophecy for the future of Ukraine. Finally, he pointed out the flaws in sending weapons designed to protect the American people to the four corners of the globe.
Senator Vance is preaching the truth, fulfilling his vocation as a Catholic and as the people’s representative. Definitely a hero in our book!
Governor Jim Pillen, R-NE
As the battle for the soul of our schools rages on, Governor Jim Pillen, R-NE has just struck a major blow in Nebraska for parental rights. In April, Pillen signed a law to ensure parents of all socio-economic classes can choose their children’s schools. The bill diverts funds from public schools to create scholarships for private schools, making them more affordable for low-income families.
In a country where government schools pledged fealty to the Great Awokening, it is now more important than ever that parents have the choice and resources to educate their children well. Gov. Pillen has taken steps to safeguard Nebraskan children’s future.
Governor Ron DeSantis, R-FL
More and more people are moving to Florida – and we can see why! Catholic Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-FL, is killing it in the education department – crafting concrete policies that will actually restore American culture.
Like St. Patrick with the snakes, he has expelled Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices from Florida Universities. Anti-semitic Hamas protesters have been expelled from state schools.
DeSantis has also taken aim at revisionist history in schools, (rightly) insisting that teachers in Florida must instruct students in the historical evils of Communist regimes – the death toll, the ideologies, and all the consequences that come from communism. Keep up the good work, Governor!
SPECIAL International HERO Award to Cardinal Mueller
This man has no fear. In an April interview with Tucker Carlson and then again at the National Conservatism Conference in Brussels, Cardinal Mueller spoke eloquently about the Catholic faiths, its ideals, and its impact on Western Culture.
The simplicity of the Cardinal’s remarks, as well as the deep certainty and peace with which he said them model for us how we are to preach the truth. His greatest talking point? The dignity of the human person. The human person has a unique dignity and identity because he (or she!) is first a child of God. All Catholics must follow the example of Cardinal Mueller and preach this identity to the seeking world.
ZEROES
President Joe Biden
“Catholic” President Biden is back on the list of zeros again this month. While attending a pro-abortion rally in Florida, President Biden performed the Sign of the Cross in support of the deaths of millions of American children in the womb. Catholic America is outraged.
“Biden’s decision to make the Sign of the Cross in support of abortion extremism is a despicable charade that attempts to co-opt a sacred practice in support of his new abortion religion,” said CatholicVote President Brian Burch.
“His gesture openly mocks the Christian belief in the sanctity of life,” Burch added. “There is no divine support for destroying the lives of innocent children, and he should know better.”
Xavier University, Ohio
Xavier University, a Cincinnati school “in the Catholic tradition,” now includes abortion in their healthcare plan. While the university has attempted to deny it, the language clearly demonstrates that abortion has been recently added to the list of covered procedures.
Condoning – and subsidizing – abortion through a healthcare plan is a gross violation of Catholic ethics and utterly craven participation in the American abortion holocaust.
Providence College, Rhode Island
It must be graduation season – another school is on the zeroes list this month. Providence College in Rhode Island has scheduled and promoted an LGBTQ+ “prom” on its student calendar. The event, held April 13, was “a dance/banquet-style event hosted to conclude LGBTQ+ Awareness Week…This event is important for SHEPARD as many students were not able to adequately celebrate their prom in high school, so this allows them to gather and celebrate in a safe space.”
Instead of providing clarity to students about their identity as sons and daughters of God, a “lavender prom” does a grave disservice to the school’s students. Rather, it compounds confusion not only about their dignity as children of God but also about the love and healing that Mother Church extends to them. On a purely natural level, such an event also perpetuates delusion and poor mental health.
