CV NEWS FEED // Critics slammed “CoComelon Lane” after the popular Netflix series marketed toward toddlers included a scene of a boy dressed as a girl performing a dance for his “two fathers.”
Newsweek described the controversial clip:
A boy named Nico was having trouble deciding what to wear for his family photo.
Both of the dads [sic] in the scene sing, “Something that we know about you, you love to get up and dance.” Then, Nico changed into a tutu and crown and began to dance. One of the dads sang to Nico: “If you’re not sure what to choose, think about all the things you like to do. Just be you.” Nico then asked: “Just be me?” And the dad replied: “Yep.”
Although Newsweek referred to the headwear donned by the young boy as a “crown,” other sources have observed that it looks more like a tiara.
The scene in question aired last month, but started to come under scrutiny Wednesday after it was brought to light by the X (formerly Twitter) account End Wokeness.
“Quite possibly the most popular kid’s show in the world is apparently trying to turn your child into a tutu-wearing mama-denying gender-bending dancer,” Daily Wire host Michael Knowles commented on Thursday’s episode of his podcast. Knowles is a Roman Catholic.
“But we’re not supposed to call this grooming,” author James A. Lindsay quipped on X shortly after the scene had gone viral. “The academic lie terminology is ‘conscientization through facilitation of the meaning of generative themes.’”
The Washington Examiner noted:
CocoMelon Lane is the first original Netflix show from the CocoMelon franchise, which has been incredibly popular on YouTube for its songs aimed at toddlers and young children. CocoMelon’s YouTube channel has over 169 million subscribers, making it the third most subscribed channel on the platform.
A Tuesday report by The Daily Wire revealed that the company “behind” the controversial Netflix series is “owned by two former Disney executives who remain close with its CEO Bob Iger.”
The Daily Wire continued:
Candle Media was founded by the former Disney executives Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs after they purchased CoComelon’s creator, Moonbug, in 2021 for a reported $3 billion. The pair were both recently removed from senior executive positions at Disney, where Mayer held roles such as Executive Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Staggs, who was once viewed as the heir apparent to Iger, rose as high as Chairman of Walt Disney Parks And Resorts.
“Even the most popular kids show in the world, Cocomelon, is no longer safe for your children,” Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boreing wrote on X.
“And that isn’t by accident,” he added. “Hollywood is a machine hellbent on brainwashing your kids, and we’ve uncovered deep ties between the guys who own Cocomelon and–you guessed it–Disney.”

CoComelon is not the first enormously popular mass-media franchise aimed at young children to be heavily criticized following its embrace of the LGBTQ movement.
In September, CatholicVote reported on a show in Nickelodeon’s multi-billion dollar preschool franchise “PAW Patrol” that featured an episode with a character claiming to be “non-binary.”
Lindsay “Lindz” Amer, an LGBTQ activist YouTuber with no known previous experience writing for television, was hired to write an episode of the new spinoff show.
Amer said on Instagram that the franchise brought her on “to consult on the first nonbinary character” and write said character’s episode. “Talk about a bucket list item,” she said.
Amer also revealed that the show’s producers “found an awesome nonbinary actor” to voice the character. Amer herself “identifies” as “non-binary” and “prefers they/them pronouns.”

Amer is the creator of a highly controversial YouTube channel called “Queer Kid Stuff.”
The channel includes a recurring series called “Rainbow Storytime” in which Amer reads picture books. Past installments of the series feature books promoting abortion and drag queens.
