CV NEWS FEED // Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance, R-OH, said presumptive Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris has been “cold and heartless” to the victims of the ongoing border crisis.
Vance, a Catholic, referred to a letter Harris wrote last year in which she went out of her way to praise the controversial “transgender” activist Dylan Mulvaney.
“Border Czar Kamala Harris found the time to write a letter to Dylan Mulvaney, yet hasn’t found any time to say even a single word about Laken Riley,” Vance pointed out on X (formerly Twitter) Monday evening. “I find it very weird that Kamala is so cold and heartless about the American kids dying because of her open border policies.”
Vance posted a screenshot of a March 2023 Blaze Media story that directly quoted Harris’ letter to Mulvaney.
“I send you my warmest greetings as you celebrate your 365th day of living authentically,” Harris wrote, referring to “Days of Girlhood,” Mulvaney’s widely panned TikTok series. “Thank you for courageously sharing your story and your journey.”
“Our administration stands with the LGBTQI+ community in the ongoing struggle for true equity and equality and against hate and discrimination in all forms,” Harris added. “I am grateful for your dedication and courage, and I hope you continue to use your platform to spread positivity and create change.”
Riley, 22, was a University of Georgia (UGA) nursing student who was brutally murdered by illegal Venezuelan migrant Jose Antonio Ibarra in February while she went for a morning jog on campus.
Ibarra had previously been charged with a crime against a child but authorities failed to deport him.
As CatholicVote reported in April, it was later revealed that prior to the murder, the Biden-Harris administration released Ibarra “due to a purported ‘lack of detention capacity.’”
FOX News noted on Monday that Harris had “never reached out” to Riley’s family.
In addition, Vance’s post “is not the first time Harris has been called out for not supporting Americans killed by illegal immigrants,” FOX continued:
Harris opted to travel to Houston, choosing to attend a dinner at a convention for teachers rather than visit the grieving parents of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, who was raped and murdered, allegedly by two migrants.
Nungaray was found strangled to death on June 17. Authorities identified the suspects as two Venezuelan nationals — Johan Jose Martinez-Rangel, 21, and Franklin Jose Peña Ramos, 26.
In addition, Vance referred to Harris as “Border Czar” in his post, referencing President Joe Biden’s 2021 decision to put her at the helm of the administration’s purported efforts to quell the crisis at the country’s southern border.
However, as CatholicVote recently noted, “In the years since the president gave Harris this responsibility, the border crisis has intensified even further to unprecedented levels.”
While a number of media outlets last week claimed that Harris was never the administration’s “Border Czar,” critics quickly pointed out that the same media sources had previously referred to her by that title in earlier reporting.
Furthermore, Vance likely described Harris as “weird” in response to a talking point used heavily by the Harris campaign over the past few days as an attempt to dismiss Vance for holding socially conservative positions.
Harris’ critics have countered by highlighting that her embrace of far-left policies, particularly with regard to the LGBTQ movement, are vastly out of step with most Americans, even traditionally Democratic voting blocs.
Many observers have since held that the repeated attempts to characterize Vance as “weird” have backfired on the Democrats.
Vance is a recent convert to Catholicism. He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a husband and father of three.
