CV NEWS FEED // Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance, R-OH, said that it’s “weird” that Democrats defend sexually explicit books being inserted in schools and the children’s sections of public libraries.
Vance, a Catholic, directly confronted the oft-repeated claim by the campaign of presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris that he is “weird” for holding socially conservative pro-family views.
“And now Kamala Harris says we’re weird,” Vance said at a Saturday rally in Atlanta, Georgia headlined by his ticket mate former President Donald Trump. “Well, Kamala, I’m glad you brought that up. Let’s talk about some things that are weird.”
“We think it’s weird that Democrats want to put sexually explicit books in toddlers’ libraries,” he said. “We think it’s weird that the far left wants to allow biological males to beat the living crap out of women.”
“We think it’s weird for a presidential candidate to bail convicted rapists and murderers out of prison and that’s what Kamala Harris did,” he added.
Earlier in his speech, Vance noted that Harris calling him, and by extension Republican voters, “weird” was not new behavior for a Democratic presidential candidate.
“Remember Barack Obama said we cling to God and guns? Remember that?” he asked the audience. “Hillary Clinton called us ‘deplorables.’”

Late last month, Harris’ newly-minted presidential campaign went after a prominent Catholic leader at the forefront of a parent-led movement to stop children from accessing pornographic content in schools and libraries.
In doing so, the Harris campaign leaned into a widely criticized leftist narrative that such efforts amount to “book banning.”
In a July 25 post, the X (formerly Twitter) account Kamala HQ called American Principles Project (APP) President Terry Schilling a “Project 2025 board member who wants to allow book bans.”
CatholicVote reported at the time:
Schilling took to X to respond to Kamala HQ’s attack by highlighting that APP is spending $18 million in a campaign focused on exposing Harris’ anti-parent positions.
“Hey [Harris],” Schilling wrote. “Big Family is coming for you!”
