CV NEWS FEED // The Texas Legislature on Wednesday passed a bill that would forbid doctors to subject children to sexual surgeries and other treatments associated with so-called “gender-affirming care.”
“Texas would become the largest state to ban gender-affirming care for minors under a bill sent Wednesday night to Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who has previously ordered child welfare officials to investigate such treatment as abuse,” the Associated Press reported.
Gov. Abbott’s administration has been outspoken against medical professionals who practice experimental “transgender medicine” on children in the Lone Star State. If he signs the new bill into law, Texas would become the 18th state – and the largest – to enact measures protecting minors from LGBTQ-backed medical practices.
“Last year, Abbott became the first governor to order the investigation of families who were receiving care,” the Associated Press noted. “The investigations were later halted by a Texas judge.”
A poll from the left-wing Washington Post this month found that “clear majorities” of Americans would favor of pushing back on the “trans” agenda. As CatholicVote reported:
Of all adults surveyed, 57% stated that “whether someone is a man or a woman is determined by the sex they were assigned at birth.” By contrast, 43% held the “trans” activist view that “someone can be a man or a woman even if that is different from the sex they were assigned at birth.”
…Regarding “trans” policies, 68% of respondents opposed subjecting children ages 10 to 14 to puberty blockers. A slightly smaller but still healthy majority of 58% opposed hormonal “gender-affirming care” for minors between the ages of 15 and 17.
The same poll found an even larger majority of Americans feel children should not be targeted with pro-”trans” messaging:
Seventy-seven percent of respondents thought that it was “inappropriate to discuss trans identity in public schools with students” from kindergarten through the third grade – the same grades covered under the Florida statute. Seventy percent of respondents further believed that “trans identity” should not be discussed in fourth- or fifth-grade classrooms, and a slim majority of 52% deemed this topic inappropriate for middle school students.
