CV NEWS FEED // Over 1,000 migrants, most of them hailing from Africa, flocked to New York City Hall Tuesday morning as the City Council held a hearing.
The New York Post indicated that the migrants were “hoping to appear at a hearing on the black experience in the city shelter system — with some saying they were promised work visas or green cards if they showed.”
The migrants were reportedly mobilized by “an activist group,” the Post specified.
“Only 250 people were allowed inside for the 10 a.m. hearing, while the hundreds of others who flocked downtown were left outside in a park, where footage showed them chanting and cheering,” the Post’s report continued.
“Dozens of migrants said they’d been told by others in the community that they could get work visas or green cards if they showed up,” added the report.
The total number of migrants was estimated to be around 1,300. According to Post, “the crowd was mostly made up of new arrivals from” the West African nation of Guinea.
Other migrants in the crowd were reportedly from Haiti.
Turning Point USA reporter Savanah Hernandez posted a video of the migrant gathering to X (formerly Twitter), as it was unfolding.
Hernandez wrote that the majority of migrants she encountered there were “single men and mainly French speaking.”
“They told me they are here to ask the city for more assistance and the ability to work,” she added.
Popular X account End Wokeness noted that most of the migrants were “military-age.”
The account posted another video of the crowd of migrants to the platform, which was originally posted by another X user.
“What is going on here,” a female voice could be heard repeatedly saying in the video, as the camera panned to show the long line of young adult men.
The woman asked the men what they were doing but none appeared to answer her question.
The X account for The American Tribune claimed that the migrants were “demanding an upgrade to luxury hotel rooms from the shelters provided by” New York City.
“New York is spending an exorbitant amount on migrant costs, spending roughly $1.5 BILLION in the 2023 fiscal year,” the account for the conservative publication stated. “NYC is forecasted to spend $9.1 BILLION on migrant housing costs in 2024 and 2025.”
“If the U.S. doesn’t stop the mass inflow of illegal immigrants into the country, our cities will likely be bankrupted from shouldering this massive financial burden of economic dependents,” the Tribune’s account emphasized.
New York City has been grappling with an unprecedented surge in its migrant population for the last several months – as the crisis at the country’s southern border continues to intensify.
On several recent occasions, Democratic Mayor Eric Adams made headlines for criticizing President Joe Biden on the issue of immigration.
In viral remarks made last September, Adams noted that the city’s migrants were coming from across the globe.
“We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month,” he said at the time:
One time we were just getting Venezuela. Now we get Ecuador, now we get Russian-speaking coming through Mexico, now we getting Western Africa, now we getting people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they gonna come through the southern part of the border and coming to New York City.

While campaigning for mayor in 2021, Adams adopted left-wing talking points on immigration, promising to maintain the Big Apple’s status as a “sanctuary city.”
However, the mayor recently appeared to shift course following the rise of crime committed by migrants in New York City.
“We should not be allowing people who are repeatedly committing crimes to remain here,” the mayor said during a February town hall.
“If you commit a felony, a violent act, we should be able to turn you over to [U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE)] and have you deported,” he stressed.
