In an intense showdown, you narrowed down the 16 contenders for CatholicVote’s annual HERO OF THE YEAR award to two finalists.
In the ultimate bracket matchup, FBI whistleblower Kyle Seraphin will be facing off against pro-life dad Mark Houck.
Both men are worthy, but only one can win.
Seraphin made headlines this year for exposing political bias in the FBI and publishing an internal Bureau memo – now known as the “Richmond memo” – linking Catholics to “white supremacy influences.”
At great personal risk, he has continued to press for answers and uncover further targeting of Catholics throughout the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Houck was acquitted of violating the FACE Act in January after he and his family suffered traumatic persecution from the FBI for their pro-life convictions.
He announced in October that he would be suing the DOJ for its maltreatment of him and his family in the hopes that the DOJ will cease its discrimination against pro-life people of faith.

Every month, the Catholic Accountability Project names three Catholic heroes who have stood up for the faith in America. Of those contenders, the CatholicVote team chose 16 to compete for the title “Hero of the Year.”

Early on in the tournament, CatholicVote Vice President Josh Mercer said:
In the end, it came down to those who took the greatest risk – to personal safety, reputation, and livelihood – and raised the bar for all Catholics in public life. We were inspired by each of them, but in the end, only one can hold the championship title.
In the face of significant intimidation by the federal government, Seraphin and Houck have both fought the good fight at great personal risk – and inspired Catholics across the nation in the process.
But there can only be one Hero of 2023.
Which finalist will secure the title?
The fourth round of voting is open, and CatholicVote will announce the winner ahead of the New Year.
