CV NEWS FEED // The Biden administration’s Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued a memo stating that it plans to use “LGBTQI+ nondiscrimination” as a condition for international grants to farmers.
“[USDA] intends to cultivate the transgender ideology on a global scale using international farm-aid programs,” Daily Signal Chief News Correspondent Fred Lucas wrote Tuesday.
Lucas cited an internal memo on “USDA and Sexual Orientation Discrimination” written by two department officials and dated October 18, 2023. The Heritage Foundation accessed the document via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request from its Oversight Project.
In the memo, the USDA officials reference President Joe Biden’s 2021 “Memorandum on Advancing the Human Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Persons Around the World.”
This Presidential Memorandum (PM) was drafted just 15 days after Biden took office.
From the USDA’s October 2023 memo:
The PM calls on U.S. agencies engaged abroad to expand ongoing efforts to ensure that our engagement with governments, citizens, civil society, and the private sector promotes respect for the human rights of LGBQTI+ persons and combats discrimination.
The PM directs the USDA—an agency engaged in foreign aid and trade and export development—to consider the impact of programs funded by the Federal Government on human rights, including the rights of LGBTQI+ persons, when making funding decisions, as appropriate and consistent with applicable law.
“Is the priority for farming in the third world really that the farmers are not gay, lesbian, or transgender enough?” the Oversight Project asked on X (formerly Twitter) Wednesday. “That’s the Biden Administration’s priority, and they condition YOUR money that they give away on it. We got the docs.”
“I would think the priority of farming would be to grow food,” replied an X user.
“Do 3rd world farmers really need to worry about LGBTQI+ issues when [they] apply for grants from the USDA?” responded Wall Street Silver, a popular account on the application. “According to the Biden admin, they do.”
This is not the first time the Biden administration’s USDA sought to advance the LGBTQ movement by denying food-related financial aid.
In May 2022, the department announced a new rule that, as CatholicVote reported “would penalize schools that don’t go along with pro-‘trans’ policies by withholding school lunch funds.”
Last fall, a group of Congressional Republicans led by Sen. Roger Marshall, R-KS, and Rep. Scott Franklin, R-FL, embarked on an ultimately unsuccessful effort to stop the rule’s implementation.
