CV NEWS FEED // The Biden administration is investigating a Texas doctor for exposing his former hospital’s secret and illicit continuation of “transgender” procedures on minors.
Dr. Eithan Haim told The Daily Wire that a pair of employees from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) made an unannounced visit to his residence last June. It happened to coincide with his graduation from residency at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM).
“[T]here was a loud knock on Haim’s apartment door,” recounted Daily Wire investigative editor Brent Scher. The doctor said the HHS agents showed him “their badges” and told him they were “investigating a case regarding medical records.”
“It was one of those moments where time stands still,” added Haim, who is now a general surgeon.
“Haim declined to be interviewed by the agents who arrived at his apartment, opting to speak with an attorney prior to submitting to any interview,” Scher reported.
“For me,” Haim said, “it’s obvious that this is a political investigation in order to prevent this from happening at other hospitals that might be lying to the public about the existence of their programs.”
Again from Scher:
Haim has still not been charged with any crimes, and is actively working as a general surgeon in a small town in Texas. The Department of Justice did not respond to a request for comment on the status of its investigation.
It remains unclear how Haim was identified by the federal government as the leaker. Texas Children’s Hospital did not respond to a request for comment on the origins of the criminal probe.
No Choice
Scher wrote that Haim “never intended to enter the public conversation over gender ideology, but what he saw as a resident doctor … left him no choice.”
At the time, Haim was serving his residency at the Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, which Scher noted is the “largest pediatric hospital in the country.” The nearly 1,000-bed facility is affiliated with BCM and remains the main teaching hospital for the school’s pediatrics residency program.
On March 4, 2022, Texas Children’s put out a statement that it had “paused hormone-related prescription therapies for gender-affirming services.”
“This step was taken to safeguard our healthcare professionals and impacted families from potential criminal legal ramifications,” the statement clarified.
The announcement was in response to a declaration by Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton a week and a half earlier.
“[P]erforming certain ‘sex-change’ procedures on children, and prescribing puberty-blockers to them, is ‘child abuse’ under Texas law,” Paxton’s office stated on February 21, 2022, following the formal attorney general opinion.
Yet, as Scher reported:
Just a few days after [Texas Children’s’] public statement, Haim learned about a surgery in which doctors at the hospital implanted puberty blockers into a prepubescent 11-year-old girl who believed she was transgender.
He continued to hear stories from other residents, and then came across a public “grand rounds” presentation by top doctors at the hospital encouraging the use of puberty blockers and hormone treatments. The lecture coached primary care doctors how to funnel patients into the transgender clinic, where they could receive treatment.
‘Do No Harm’
“I reached this unavoidable conclusion that Texas Children’s Hospital is providing this outward appearance that they shut down the program, when in actuality, within the hospital, it’s a very high priority,” Haim said during his Daily Wire interview. “I start realizing how blatant this is, how unethical it is, and how they’re lying to the public.”
“It’s my responsibility as a doctor, as a physician, to expose this to the public,” he went on:
If I don’t, then this abuse can continue. I knew that future generations, like my children, would never be able to forgive me if they knew I had the chance to do something and I decided to stay silent.
It requires average, everyday doctors to stand up and speak out against things like this.

‘Just Absolutely Wild’
Haim eventually shared his story with well-known conservative scholar and writer Christopher Rufo.
At the beginning of a May 2023 article published in The City Journal, Rufo cited the then-anonymous Haim’s testimony.
Rufo reported that despite the hospital’s public comments, Texas Children’s “secretly continued to provide puberty blockers and other hormones to children between the ages of 11 and 17.”
Throughout the piece, Rufo interviewed another whistleblower, who came forward after Haim brought the story to Rufo’s attention. This individual called the scope of the so-called “gender-affirming care” at the hospital “absolutely astonishing.”
He or she told Rufo that the children being subjected to “transgender” procedures there
have serious mental health issues. They’re autistic. They have previous suicide attempts. They’re depressed. They’re on anxiety medications. They have a disability of some kind.
“It’s just absolutely wild,” the whistleblower stressed.
Per CatholicVote’s previous reporting, being “on the autism spectrum increases a person’s likelihood of identifying as transgender or ‘non-binary’ by up to a factor of six.”
Texas Takes Action
As Scher described, Rufo’s piece soon went viral: “Just two days after the story was published, the Texas legislature voted to pass SB-14,” a bill officially barring doctors from performing “transgender” surgeries on children.
Per Haim, Rufo deliberately timed his May article’s release so that it would effect the votes of some moderate Democrats in the Texas House.
Ultimately, four Democratic lawmakers broke with their party to vote for the bill – Reps. Harold Dutton, Abel Herrero, Tracy King, and Shawn Thierry, all D-TX. According to Scher, “There was a belief in Texas that it was Rufo’s story that won over” these Democrats.

“[Rufo’s] piece also led to a formal investigation by Texas into the hospital,” continued The Daily Wire investigative editor.
‘Affirming’ Hate
The following month, Rufo published an interview on his Substack with a physician, now revealed to be Haim.
Rufo asked Haim to explain “the main tenets of transgender medical theory.”
The physician replied:
One, when an individual believes he or she is of a certain sex, he or she is truly of that sex. Two, the ideal response is to affirm that individual’s preferred identity. Three, the repercussion of nonintervention is a higher likelihood of that individual committing suicide. The threat of suicide removes any of the guardrails for what we must do to affirm that individual’s identity. Puberty blockers become justified at 11 years old. Hormones become justified at 13 years old. Double mastectomy becomes justified before 18.
“But in reality, when you ‘affirm’ these individuals’ gender identity, what you are doing is affirming their hatred for themselves,” continued Haim.
“You have these children who are going through confusing times, difficult times,” he pointed out. “[W]hen you affirm this belief system, what you’re really doing is telling them: ‘You hate yourself at this moment, and I will affirm that.’”
“We have to ask ourselves, why do these people have such high rates of suicide?” Haim posed. “Because we’re affirming that they should hate themselves and that they should try to destroy themselves.”
Rufo published the interview the day before federal agents showed up at Haim’s door.
