CV NEWS FEED // An Iowa school principal who heroically sacrificed himself to save the lives of his students has died after a week and a half of battling injuries sustained in the deadly shooting.
Principal Dan Marburger of Perry High School “reportedly died at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday,” Blaze Media reported. “He was previously listed in ‘stable’ condition at the hospital after being shot by the school shooter.”
Blaze Media added that during the shooting, the principal “reportedly distracted the shooter away from young students.”
Marburger’s widow, Elizabeth, wrote that her late husband “gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
“After 10 days, he lost his battle and this tragedy took his life,” Mrs. Marburger wrote on the family’s GoFundMe page.
“Although Dan is no longer fighting with us here, his family will continue to deal with the unfathomable for many days, weeks, and years to come,” she stated. “He fought hard and gave us 10 days that we will treasure forever.”
Republican Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds wrote in a statement Sunday that the whole state “is devastated by the news of Dan Marburger’s death.”
“Dan courageously put himself in harm’s way to protect his students, and ultimately gave his own life to save them,” she went on. “He will forever be remembered for his selfless and heroic actions. May he rest in peace.”
Per her statement, the governor ordered “all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff” on the day of Marburger’s passing. The flags are to “remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of [his] funeral and internment.”
Marburger’s daughter Claire wrote on Facebook on the night of the shooting: “As I heard of a gunman, I instantly had a feeling my Dad would be a victim as he would put himself in harms way for the benefit of the kids and his staff.”
“It is absolutely zero surprise to hear he tried to approach and talk [the shooter] down and distract him long enough for some students to get out of the cafeteria,” she added. “That’s just Dad.”
A sixth-grade Perry Middle School student was killed in the January 4 shooting, CatholicVote indicated that day.

Also, “two other school staff members and four students were wounded,” Blaze Media noted. “Two of the students remained hospitalized as of Friday.”
The shooter committed suicide following the rampage.
“A lone gunman, who police identified as a 17-year-old student at the school … was armed with a pump-action shotgun and a small-caliber handgun,” The Daily Wire reported on the day of the attack.
The perpetrator had “made multiple social media posts” shortly before, The Daily Wire continued.
According to The Des Moines Register, he
had posted a selfie on [TikTok] of him in a [school] bathroom stall with a blue duffle bag by his feet. The caption read “now we wait.”
The TikTok post, which has since been taken down along with [the shooter’s] social media accounts, was accompanied by the song “Stray Bullet” by rock group KMFDM. The song infamously was used on the personal website of Eric Harris, one of the shooters of the Columbine High School massacre in 1999.
Various observers have provided alleged photographic evidence showing that the shooter may have been an LGBTQ activist who identified as “transgender” or “genderfluid.”
Political and cultural commentator Ian Miles Cheong posted a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter), adding that the shooter “frequented the r/trans community” on Reddit.
Fellow political commentator Collin Rugg also took to X providing several screenshots that appeared to link the minor gunman to radical elements of the LGBTQ movement.
“[He] appeared to interact with transgender accounts on Reddit & other LGBTQ accounts,” Rugg wrote.
After these revelations surfaced, multiple X accounts pointed out that a significant number of recent mass shootings were carried out by a perpetrator confirmed or alleged to be “transgender” or “nonbinary.”
“The modern LGBTQ+ movement is radicalizing our youth into becoming violent extremists,” stated Libs of TikTok, a popular account with nearly three million followers.

Businessman Donald Trump Jr. agreed, asking: “Per capita is there a more violent group of people anywhere in the world than radicalized trans activists?”
“Given the tiny fraction of the population that they make up it doesn’t seem like anyone else even comes close,” added the son of former President Donald Trump.
