CV NEWS FEED // In a recent letter, a coalition of environmental groups called on the House Republican majority to “take note” of the Biden administration’s push for electric vehicles (EVs) and other controversial “green” policy proposals.
“President Biden’s Green New Deal climate policy agenda is also in rapid meltdown and countdown to disaster,” the letter’s signatories wrote to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise, both R-LA, as FOX News reported Monday.
“Not a day seems to go by without news of some sort of EV disaster or problem,” the letter continued:
From the supply chain that includes child slave labor in the Congo and Communist China-sourcing of key materials and parts; to low consumer demand because of high prices, inconvenience and poor performance/failure; to auto industry financial losses, job cuts and labor problems; to the utter waste of taxpayer money through Inflation Reduction Act subsidies and programs, EV’s are becoming a casebook study in the failure of government industrial policy.

“Taxpayers are subsidizing this disaster at the rate of $50,000 per EV over a 10-year period,” the groups noted.
“This is a gasoline-equivalent subsidy of $17.33 per gallon,” they emphasized. “Crowning this disaster is that there is not a single chance that EVs will ever improve the climate or environment.”
The letter also singled out the Biden administration’s investment in expanding offshore wind farming.
“Not only is offshore wind the most expensive way to generate electricity, as with EVs, there is not a single chance that any amount of offshore wind power will improve the weather, climate or environment,” the groups wrote.
Per FOX, the letter’s signatories
include[d] experts from the Heartland Institute, Energy & Environment Legal Institute, American Energy Institute (AEI), Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), the International Climate Science Coalition (ICSC), and Truth in Energy and Climate
“The false claims used to support the Green New Deal agenda and its ensuing policy failures are jeopardizing our economic and national security, and our liberties and standard of living while failing to produce any demonstrable benefits,” the coalition concluded.
“[W]e hope you will take note of these developments,” they wrote in a final plea to the House’s two highest-ranking members.
The Biden White House has been vocal about its “goal of having 50 percent of all new vehicle sales be electric by 2030,” a radical proposal that many critics have called an “EV mandate.”
Hertz, the nation’s largest car rental company, announced plans last week to sell one-third of its stock of EVs, citing high costs and low demand. In late November, thousands of car dealers across the nation wrote a letter to the president petitioning him to withdraw his mandate.

“While advocates of EVs emphasize ‘zero-emission,’ EVs are anything but a renewable resource,” CatholicVote’s Erika Ahern wrote last year in a report exposing the link between EV battery production and the exploitation of child workers in Africa:
The so-called “green energy” shift away from fossil fuels replaces them with metals and minerals as “primary inputs,” and that means new big business. The top-selling electric vehicles of 2022 – from makers Tesla, Ford, Volkswagen, Kia, Hyundai, and Chevy – are all powered by lithium-ion batteries.

Back in 2019, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) reported: “Mining and processing the minerals, plus the battery manufacturing process, involve substantial emissions of carbon.”
“Lithium mining, needed to build the lithium ion batteries at the heart of today’s EVs, has also been connected to other kinds of environmental harm,” the CBC added:
There have been mass fish kills related to lithium mining in Tibet, for example. The freshwater supply is being consumed by mines in South America’s lithium-rich region. Even in North America, where mining regulations are strict, harsh chemicals are used to extract the valuable metal.
The CBC is funded by the Canadian government, which has been controlled by the left-wing and pro-“green” Liberal Party since 2015.
During a 2022 FOX News appearance, environmental journalist Michael Shellenberger slammed the EV mandate taking shape in his home state of California.
“This is what you get when you convince yourself that the end of the world is nigh and that climate change is something that is going to basically destroy civilization within the next 12 years,” he said.
“There’s a still a big debate about whether or not electric vehicles are the right way to go,” he added. “We’re in the worst energy crisis in 50 years. This is not the time to be becoming more dependent on a totalitarian regime like China.”
