CV NEWS FEED // Multiple reports indicate the National Christmas Tree fell down outside the White House Tuesday. Many critics of President Joe Biden were quick to call the event symbolic of his administration.
A WUSA television broadcast said that according to the National Park Service (NPS), “a big gust of wind knocked over the National Christmas Tree.”
The broadcast anchor explained that at the time, a “big tree-lighting ceremony” was set to take place on Thursday.
Reporting from the scene, WUSA’s Delia Gonçalves added that a “massive crane” was “working very carefully to try to upright” the fallen tree.
WUSA is a CBS affiliate based in Washington, DC.
Sources differed on the exact time the strong winds toppled the tree but agreed that it was sometime in the early afternoon, likely between 1 and 2 p.m. EST.
FOX 5 DC noted that the tree was a “40-foot Norway spruce from West Virginia’s Monongahela National Forest” and “had been planted just two weeks ago on the White House Ellipse.”
Video evidence shows that approximately four hours after the tree fell to the ground, it was successfully lifted back into place via crane.
Per WRC-TV, a DC-based NBC affiliate, “NPS said the [lighting ceremony] will go on as planned.”
“It was not immediately clear if the crane will hold the tree during the event or if the tree is damaged,” WRC-TV reported.
Standup comedian Tim Young wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that the incident is “the perfect reminder of how Biden has ruined everything in America this holiday season.”
“So fitting for this administration,” agreed conservative political commentator Benny Johnson.
“Perfectly summing up Joe Biden’s presidency,” wrote the X account for Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee.
Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins quipped that the incident “makes sense, given that a stiff breeze blows Biden over too.”
