CV NEWS FEED // Critics blasted a pro-LGBTQ change the Biden administration made to Title IX Friday which they argue undermines women’s and girl’s sports and privacy rights, as well as parental rights and religious liberty.
The Department of Education’s unofficial final rule states that the purpose of its changes “is to better align the Title IX regulatory requirements with Title IX’s nondiscrimination mandate.”
The rule explains that it will “[d]efine ‘sex-based harassment’ as a form of sex discrimination that includes sexual harassment and harassment based on sex stereotypes, sex characteristics, pregnancy or related conditions, sexual orientation, or gender identity.”
CatholicVote Director of Governmental Affairs Tom McClusky stated that under the new rule, “the Biden administration continues its war on women and girls.”
“They can no longer feel safe in bathrooms, locker rooms or even ‘women’s’ shelters,” McClusky said.
“If enacted, this rule will also devastate women’s sports, allowing men to steal their trophies, and more importantly, scholarships,” he continued. “Worse, the rule effectively eliminates religious protections as well.”
“If you are a parent, you can kiss your rights to raise your child good-bye as well,” McClusky added. “Sexual predators can convince them to mutilate their bodies and you will be left helpless by the Biden administration.”
Twelve-time All-American collegiate swimmer Riley Gaines blasted the rule on X (formerly Twitter) Friday.
“The Biden Admin has just officially abolished Title IX as we knew it,” she wrote. “Now, sex [equals] gender identity.”
“In a nutshell, the new rewrite means: men can take academic AND athletic scholarships from women,” Gaines’ post continued:
– men will have FULL access to bathrooms, locker rooms, etc
– men could be housed in dorm rooms with women
– students and faculty MUST compel their speech by requiring the use of preferred pronouns
“If the guidelines above are ignored or even questioned, then YOU can be charged with harassment,” the women’s sports advocate stressed.
The day before, Gaines wrote in another X post that the “illegal, administrative rewrite of Title IX is the most anti-woman pursuit we’ve seen from the Biden Administration.”
“It’s dire we get a new administration in the White House in November,” she added in the post.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) legal counsel Rachel Rouleau also slammed the rule.
“The Biden administration’s radical redefinition of sex turns back the clock on equal opportunity for women, threatens student safety and privacy, and undermines fairness in women’s sports,” Rouleau stated Friday.
The attorney called the rule “a slap in the face to women and girls who have fought long and hard for equal opportunities.”
“The [Biden] administration continues to ignore biological reality, science, and commonsense, and women are suffering as a result,” she went on:
The administration’s new regulation will have devastating consequences on the future of women’s sports, student privacy, and parental rights, which is why [ADF] plans to take action to defend female athletes, as well as school districts, teachers, and students who will be gravely harmed by this unlawful government overreach.
