CV NEWS FEED // Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) have co-sponsored a resolution aimed at overturning a Biden administration rule that allows certain federal agencies to show bias in their partnerships with faith-based organizations.
The “Partnerships with Faith-based and Neighborhood Organizations” final rule was made effective on April 3 and allows nine government agencies to force faith-based organizations to choose between receiving federal funds or upholding their beliefs. The agencies include the U.S. Departments of Education, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, and Veterans Affairs, among others.
A news release from Hyde-Smith’s office stated that the rule “directs federal agencies to levy unrealistic and burdensome regulations on faith-based recipients of federal funds that make it financially and logistically infeasible for these charities carrying out social service programs.”
“The Biden administration’s unrelenting attacks on faith-based organizations are unfounded, unwarranted, and offensive,” Hyde-Smith stated in the news release. “These organizations are often pillars of our communities in offering services, guidance, and support, and we must do all that we can to ensure they can continue their transformative work.”
“Faith-based charities have long been essential partners to the federal government, providing crucial ‘boots on the ground’ support in many initiatives,” Rubio added in the news release. “The Biden Administration’s rule threatens to sideline these charities and force a radical social agenda on them.”
Hyde-Smith and Rubio’s resolution expresses congressional disapproval of the final rule and called for it to be overturned. It was also cosponsored by U.S. Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Rick Scott (R-FL), Katie Britt (R-AL), Josh Hawley (R-MO), and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).
