CV NEWS FEED // Over the weekend, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he is nominating Kash Patel, an attorney who served in various capacities in Trump’s first administration, to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate – which will be controlled by Republicans beginning early next month – Patel will replace controversial FBI Director Christopher Wray, whom Trump had originally nominated back in 2017.
Wray has remained in his role under the entire Biden-Harris administration. His leadership has fallen under scrutiny due to the FBI’s targeting of Catholics in an infamous January 2023 memo.
Trump wrote on TRUTH Social Saturday evening that Patel is “a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People.”
“He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution,” the president-elect continued:
Kash did an incredible job during my First Term, where he served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council. Kash has also tried over 60 jury trials.
Furthermore, Trump vowed that the FBI under Patel “will end the growing crime epidemic in America, dismantle the migrant criminal gangs, and stop the evil scourge of human and drug trafficking across the Border.”
“Kash will work under our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI,” Trump’s post concluded.
FOX News noted that, since FBI directors can usually serve up to 10 consecutive years as limited by Congress, Wray “will either need to be fired or resign in order for Patel to take the position.”
Wray was himself nominated by Trump to take over following the president’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey – whose tenure at the helm of the Bureau was also a source of much controversy.
After Trump nominated Patel to be its new director, the FBI declared in a statement:
Every day, the men and women of the FBI continue to work to protect Americans from a growing array of threats. Director Wray’s focus remains on the men and women of the FBI, the people we do the work with, and the people we do the work for.
Columnist David Marcus wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “I feel confident that Kash Patel will not allow the FBI to spy on my Catholic Church. That alone is a massive upgrade.”
During a September appearance on the popular podcast “The Shawn Ryan Show,” Patel explained some of the bold actions he planned to take if he were to become FBI director.
“The biggest problem” at the Bureau “has come out of its intel shops,” he said. “I’d break that component out of it.”
“I’d shut down the FBI Hoover Building on Day 1 and reopen it the next day as a museum of the deep state,” he added, referring to the building that serves as the FBI’s Washington D.C. headquarters.
“And I’d take the 7,000 employees that work in that building and send them across America to chase down criminals,” Patel outlined:
Go be cops. You’re cops, go be cops. Go chase down murderers, and rapists, and drug dealers, and violent offenders. What do you need 7,000 people there for? Same thing with DOJ [Department of Justice].
What are all these people doing here? Looking for the next government promotion, looking for their next fancy government title.
