CV NEWS FEED // Former Trump administration official Mike Gill is in critical condition after a serial carjacker shot him in Washington, D.C. Monday night.
A husband and father of three, Gill serves as the senior vice president for Capital Markets at the Housing Policy Council. During the Trump presidency, Gill spent over two years as the chief operating officer of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Gill has worked in Republican politics for over three decades and also recently served three terms as the party’s representative in the D.C. Board of Elections.
“We can confirm that Mike Gill was the victim of the shooting at the 900 block of K Street Northwest on Monday evening and is in critical condition,” a spokeswoman for Gill’s family told The Daily Wire Tuesday. “Out of respect for the family, we have nothing additional to add at this time.”
The suspected assailant shot Gill around 5:45 pm on Monday. The Republican official was about to pick up his wife at the time.
“Police said the perpetrator got into [Gill’s] parked vehicle and shot the victim before fleeing on foot, and that [Gill] collapsed outside the vehicle,” The Daily Wire reported.
Right before he was shot, Gill called his wife to tell her to meet him. When she arrived, she found him bleeding and unresponsive with one foot inside the vehicle.
As The New York Post noted, the shooting marked the beginning of the suspect’s crime spree, which carried over into D.C.’s suburbs:
The gunman shot dead another victim whose car he stole and is believed to have been responsible for another three attempted or successful carjackings — as well as two incidents in which he fired at police.
The suspect eventually was killed by cops after approaching them with two firearms in Maryland.

Washington D.C.-based ABC affiliate WUSA indicated that Gill “is currently fighting for his life in grave condition.”
“Mike is an amazing husband, father, friend and colleague. He has a wonderful sense of humor, no matter the situation,” his family said in a statement.
He makes friends with everyone – and is always looking for opportunities to bring people together and make them feel included and loved. His warmth and kindness have touched the lives of many, evident in the outpouring of love and support his family have received during this difficult time. Mike’s remarkable ability to connect with others transcends boundaries.
“The most important thing about Mike that all of his friends know is how much he loves his family and how proud he is of his three children,” the statement continued. “You can’t know Mike without hearing proud stories of each one of his kids, and hearing about his love and respect for his wife, Kristina.”
CatholicVote reported earlier this month that end-of-year crime statistics from Washington D.C. “show that almost 1,000 carjackings took place in the city during 2023 alone.”
“D.C.’s 959 recorded carjackings last year represented a doubling of the total from 2022,” CatholicVote pointed out. “The 2023 number was also more than six times 2019’s record of 152 carjackings.”
