CV NEWS FEED // After meeting privately at Trump Tower in New York City on Friday, President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the press that they seek a “just” and “fair” resolution to the Russo-Ukrainian War.
“We need just peace,” Zelenskyy said, standing side by side with Trump. “It’s so important to have just peace for the people, especially for the families who … lost their children. It’s a big tragedy.”
A reporter asked Trump if he has changed his “thoughts on how this war should end, what you think should be done?”
“Well, I learned a lot,” Trump answered. “But I think I haven’t changed from the standpoint that we both want to see this end, and we both want to see a fair deal made, and it’s got to be fair.”
“And I think that will happen at the right time,” Trump added. “I think it’s going to happen.”
Trump said Zelenskyy also wants the war “to end, and he wants it to end as quickly as possible. He wants a fair transaction to take place.” The GOP nominee promised that if he wins the November election against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, he will seek a “very fair” and “rather rapid deal.”
The war “should stop,” Trump added, “and the president [Zelenskyy] wants it to stop. And I’m sure [Russian] President Putin wants it to stop. And that’s a good combination. So, we want to have a fair deal for everybody.”
Trump later told the reporter, “This is a war that should have never happened,” agreeing with Zelenskyy’s earlier assertion. “And we’ll get it solved. It’s a complicated puzzle.”
In the same press interview, Zelenskyy stated that the United States “is the leader of support.”
“And of course we understand that the United States can be the leader through any negotiation,” the Ukrainian president added.

Shortly after, Trump took to TRUTH Social, calling the meeting with Zelenskyy “great.”
“If I’m elected President, the war with Russia and Ukraine will end quickly,” he vowed, warning: “If not, that war will never end, and will phase into WORLD WAR III.”
He stated that Harris “will NEVER BE ABLE TO END THE WAR, and hasn’t.”
In February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine. The Biden-Harris administration was just over a year into running the American government at the time.
Harris also met with Zelenskyy during his visit to the United States this week. The vice president met him at the White House just one day before Trump’s meeting.
Observers pointed out that Harris struck a very different tone than Trump’s while speaking to reporters. Among her remarks were what the Associated Press described as a “veiled criticism” of Trump’s efforts toward a peaceful resolution to the war.
“These proposals are the same as those of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin,” Harris said, as reported by The Hill. “[And] let us be clear, they are not proposals for peace. Instead, they are proposals for surrender, which is dangerous and unacceptable.”
“As I have made clear on our six previous meetings,” Harris told the press, “and throughout Putin’s brutal aggression and war against Ukraine, my support for the people of Ukraine is unwavering.”
“I have been proud to stand with Ukraine,” she said. “I will continue to stand with Ukraine, and I will work to ensure Ukraine prevails in this war.”
The Biden-Harris White House said via a Thursday statement that at the meeting with Zelenskyy, Harris
expressed her unwavering commitment to stand with Ukraine. They discussed the importance of continued, strong U.S. support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression, President Zelenskyy’s plans for victory, and efforts to secure a just and lasting peace based on the will of the people of Ukraine and the UN Charter.
Per the White House, Harris and the Ukrainian president also “discussed continued U.S. support for bolstering Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure after renewed attacks from Russia.”
Per FOX News, “Zelenskyy told reporters at Trump Tower that he is meeting with both presidential candidates because ‘after November, we don’t know who Americans [will decide to] be the president.’”
