CV NEWS FEED // Hedge fund expert and political strategist Steve Cortes is joining CatholicVote as a senior political advisor.
Cortes founded the advocacy organization League of American Workers, which aims to improve sustainable public policy for workers. He spent 25 years working for international hedge funds, trading global currencies and interest rates.
“After serving at senior levels in presidential and US Senate campaigns, I have seen the work of a lot of advocacy and grassroots organizations,” Cortes said. “CatholicVote is, without question, one of the most effective groups in American public life.”
Commenting on his new role, he added, “I hope to use that CV responsibility and platform as a true vocation, to reclaim our incredible republic and strengthen the mission of our Holy Church.”
Starting in 2007, Cortes worked as a financial commentator for CNBC and then as a political on-air broadcaster for FOX News and CNN, according to the League of American Workers’ website. He also worked on Donald Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns as a senior spokesman and strategist, leading Hispanic voter outreach. He served as the senior media advisor for JD Vance during the Ohio-based United States Senate 2022 race.
Cortes was a special guest on CatholicVote’s Feb. 21 LOOPcast episode. CatholicVote Vice President Joshua Mercer said on the episode that the organization is excited to bring Cortes onto the team. He said that of the thousands of TV features Cortes has been a part of, perhaps the best the programming Cortes participated in was a collaboration with PragerU debunking the Charlottesville “very fine people” hoax. At the time of this article’s publication, the video had 8.3 million views.
Cortes said he is honored to join the CatholicVote team.
“I have such admiration for Brian Burch, Josh Mercer, and the entire team that makes CatholicVote a force in American politics,” he said, “and it’s an honor to join this group of dedicated patriots and faithful Catholics.”
