CV NEWS FEED // The Senate Tuesday overwhelmingly confirmed Sean Duffy, a pro-life Catholic husband and father of nine, as the Trump administration’s Secretary of Transportation.
Duffy’s confirmation came by way of a wide 77-22 vote margin in the upper chamber.
President Donald Trump had called the former Wisconsin congressman a “tremendous and well-liked public servant” when he selected Duffy as his nominee for the transportation post.
And ahead of the Tuesday vote, Duffy seemed to vindicate Trump’s observation, eliciting praise from members of both parties. “Sean is the right person for this job,” said Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin, according to The New York Post.
As CatholicVote has reported, “Duffy represented a sprawling, mostly rural congressional district based in northwestern Wisconsin from 2011 until he resigned in 2019 to take care of his then-newborn youngest child, who has special needs.”
“Previously, he served as the elected District Attorney of heavily Democratic Ashland County for eight years,” CatholicVote’s report added. “He is also known for starring on the MTV reality show ‘The Real World’ in the late 1990s, where he met his wife Rachel Campos-Duffy, now a Fox & Friends Weekend co-hostess.”
When Trump first nominated Duffy, the president expressed confidence that the former Wisconsin official “will prioritize Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness and Beauty when rebuilding America’s highways, tunnels, bridges and airports,” and will also “make our skies safe again by eliminating DEI for pilots and air traffic controllers.”
