CV NEWS FEED // Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-NY, is facing widespread criticism after announcing Monday the creation of an online portal for “whistleblowers” to report to Senate Democrats on the Trump administration.
“Today, I’m calling on our brave public servants,” Schumer wrote on X Monday morning. “I’m launching a new portal for anyone who wants to expose corruption, abuses of power, and threats to public safety with the legal protections of being a whistleblower.”
The portal, which is part of the Senate Democratic Caucus’ government website, provides a form for people to submit “whistleblower complaints.”
The form asks each entrant for a name, organization, and contact information. It divides complaints against the administration into four main categories: “retaliation,” “wasteful spending,” “fraud,” and “criminal activity;” as well as an “other” option.
Additionally, the portal asks users to explain their complaints and name the “agency or organization involved.”
“Whistleblowers are a vital part of Congressional oversight to hold the administration accountable,” the portal’s webpage states.
In a Monday “Dear Colleague” letter announcing the portal, Schumer wrote to fellow Democratic senators: “Senate Democrats, led by our committees, are using every tool at our disposal to hold the Trump Administration accountable for its lawless actions.”
“This critical work has been strengthened by the heroic courage of whistleblowers who have come forward to expose the dangers of Trump’s actions,” Schumer continued. “Ultimately, if Senate Republicans continue to refuse to uphold their congressional duty to provide oversight on the Executive Branch, Senate Democrats stand ready to act alone.”
Schumer noted that his caucus is “prepared to hold independent ‘spotlight’ hearings to expose the rampant wrongdoing of the Trump Administration.” He also stated that “Senate Democrats will issue demand letters, preserve public records, and take legal action when necessary to safeguard our democracy.”
The move ignited an onslaught of criticism.
In a post at the conservative blog Redstate, Mike Miller wrote that the new portal is part of the Democrats’ “apoplectic meltdown over the actions of President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, head of Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).”
“The announcement of the new portal is the latest escalation of Democrat tactics as they continue to push back against the Trump administration’s efforts to freeze spending and cut federal programs,” Miller added. He pointed out that DOGE “continues to find billions of dollars in wasteful, Democrat-backed spending.”
Miller continued: “I’m going to go out on a (safe) limb and bet that conservatives and other Americans who are genuinely concerned about corruption and abuse of power like we’ve seen from the Democrat Party since the early days of Trump’s first administration will jump on the site and do some real whistleblowing.”
Former Republican National Committee (RNC) Rapid Response Director Steve Guest wrote on X that Schumer “should be reported for threatening Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch & Brett Kavanaugh.”
Guest cited remarks Schumer made while addressing a pro-abortion group in 2020. “I want to tell you Gorsuch,” Schumer had said, “I want to tell you Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions!”
Conservative comedian Tim Young simply replied to Schumer’s X post to highlight the Trump administration’s own efforts – opposed by Schumer and the Democrats – to uproot corruption and waste in government: “We already have that… it’s called DOGE.”
