CV NEWS FEED // According to the results of a recent investigation, the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the outgoing Biden administration poured over $100 million into pushing far-left causes such as diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in schools across much of the country.
The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan reported on Thursday that over the four years President Joe Biden has been in office, his DOJ “awarded over $100,113,942” to the various “woke” initiatives “through 102 grants, throughout 36 states, impacting 946 school districts and upwards of 3 million K-12 students.”
The information was obtained via an “investigation conducted by Parents Defending Education (PDE),” Olohan reported:
The funds were awarded through the Justice Department’s STOP School Violence Program, which provides grant money to school districts, nonprofits, and city and state governments through projects that “increase school safety by implementing solutions that will improve school climate.”
PDE foundress and president Nicki Neily wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that the numbers reported by her organization’s investigation “are based on available data and not exact.”
“The number of districts and students is likely much higher,” she emphasized.
In her post, Neily specified that the DOJ had awarded $45 million in “general” grants, including “project proposals that broadly mention restorative practices or social emotional learning.”
Per Neily, the DOJ also allocated an additional $32 million to initiatives PDE deemed as falling under the DEI category, “including project proposals that discuss diversity, equity, or inclusion or explicitly explain how the project is intended to improve outcomes for a specific demographic group.”
The DOJ spent just shy of $20 million on “consulting/certification” grants, Neily stated. These grants include “proposals that aim to hire consultants” who “often promote divisive concepts such as critical race theory, critical gender theory and queer theory.”
The remaining $10 million were allocated for project proposals addressing the hiring of personnel, Neily reported, including administrators with titles such as “restorative justice facilitator.”
In subsequent posts, Neily pointed out several examples of how the Biden administration’s DOJ spent millions of dollars on far-left school programs.
“The Minnesota Department of Education received nearly $2 million from the DOJ to ‘create safe learning environments where practices of anti-racism and anti-oppression are embedded,’” she pointed out:
Bowling Green State University (OH) received $1,853,070 to develop student mental health curriculum in rural and high-poverty districts that involved “mindfulness meditation, yoga, and knitting circles.”
A Penn State (PA) project to decrease cyberbullying in Central Pennsylvania K-12 schools was awarded $1,785,773 to “provide an opportunity to meaningfully advance equity in violence prevention for communities historically underserved, marginalized, adversely affected by inequality, and disproportionately impacted by crime, violence, and victimization (People of Color (POC), women, people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ community).”
PDE Director of Outreach Erika Sanzi wrote on X that the organization does “what education journalists won’t.”
She called the DEI-related programs on which Biden’s DOJ spent over $100 million “garbage initiatives that made schools less safe.”
Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-FL, took to X to react to the PDE’s findings.
“Only Biden’s DOJ would think that students are safer when DEI is forced into the classroom,” the congressman wrote. “That $100 MILLION should have been spent on school resource officers or other protective measures, not pushing harmful woke ideology.”
