CV NEWS FEED // Pro-abortion activists repeatedly accosted a group of pro-life students who were peacefully protesting a North Carolina speech by Vice President Kamala Harris.
The altercation happened last week outside of North Carolina A&T University, a historically black university in Greensboro, NC. The protestors were part of Students for Life America (SFL) and had traveled from various parts of the state to demostrate on behalf of the unborn.
The Catholic News Agency’s (CNA) Joe Bukuras reported that the pro-life students initially had a productive discussion with the attendees. However, after the speech, things took a turn for the worse.
Bukuras described some of the events that transpired when Harris was finished speaking. As he explained, much of the harassment of the protesters was documented on video:
One young man can be seen taking the Students for Life group’s marker and sign and writing “BLM,” otherwise known as Black Lives Matter, on it. The crowd cheered as he raised the sign and danced around.
Two others can be seen on video holding up signs that say “F*** dem kids,” while the crowd is heard chanting the same.
Other profanities could be heard being shouted at the pro-life group. Photos from the protest show the pro-life group being taunted with obscene hand gestures. The group also claims they were “twerked on” (a type of suggestive dancing), which several photos confirm.
SFL’s political action committee wrote on social media that their members were “completely surrounded, having their belongings stolen [and] vandalized.”
“The local police had to escort them off campus for their own safety,” SFL Action added.
Twenty-year-old pro-life activist Lydia Taylor, who helped organize the protest, said the police “immediately came in and said, ‘We have to go now’ and pulled us out of the mob. We were forced to leave a lot of our stuff behind. It was so chaotic.”
“The reality is: Black women have always been targeted by the abortion industry,” SFL Action continued, noting Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger’s profound history of promoting racism and eugenics.
“So we aren’t giving up — EVERYONE needs to know what exactly the Biden-Harris Administration supports,” the group wrote.
Harris’ speech was part of her “Fight for Our Freedoms College Tour,” which Bukuras called an “effort to mobilize college students to vote and support the Democratic agenda on a variety of issues, including the expansion of abortion.”
Earlier this month, the White House described the tour as a series of “high-energy, large-scale events” revolving around “key issues that disproportionately impact young people across the country.” These issues include so-called “reproductive freedom,” “LGBTQ+ equality,” and “book bans.”
