CV NEWS FEED // According to a new poll, over half of American voters are concerned that news sources will report inaccurate information about the 2024 election cycle. Republicans are more likely to feel this way compared to Democrats.
Fifty-three percent of Americans “say they are extremely or very concerned that news organizations will report inaccuracies or misinformation during the election,” the Associated Press (AP) reported Wednesday.
Per the AP, 47% of the poll’s respondents “express[ed] serious concern that news outlets would report information that has not been confirmed or verified.”
“Republicans are more likely than Democrats and independents to express concern about inaccurate information or misinformation in news coverage during the upcoming elections,” the AP stated. “About 6 in 10 Republicans are concerned about this, compared with about half of Democrats.”
Meanwhile, 44% of respondents “worry that accurate information will be presented in a way that favors one side or another,” and an additional 42% “express worry that news outlets will use generative artificial intelligence to create stories,” the AP’s report noted.
“The nationwide poll was conducted by the Media Insight Project, a collaboration of the American Press Institute and The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research from March 21 to March 25, 2024,” AP-NORC indicated.
AP-NORC’s website further describes the Media Insight Project as a “joint research initiative” formed “to better understand news consumers.”
NORC is based at the University of Chicago, and is an independent affiliate of the school.

AP-NORC also indicated that according to the Media Insight Center’s poll “Black adults (13%) and Hispanic adults (9%) are more likely than white adults (3%) to have a great deal of confidence in the news about elections they obtain from social media.”
“Younger adults are less engaged with election news and have less confidence in the media than older adults, but older adults have more concerns about inaccurate election news,” the research center added.
