CV NEWS FEED // According to a new poll, just under 60% of voters in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania consider reducing energy costs more important than Democrat-backed environmentalist policies.
The Commonwealth Foundation for Public Policy Alternatives (“Commonwealth Foundation”) released the poll Tuesday.
“When considering your support for a candidate for elected office, which is more important,” the survey asked: his or her “commitment to protecting the environment and natural resources,” or his or her “commitment to lower energy costs using our natural energy resources.”
Fifty-nine percent of Pennsylvanians surveyed said the latter option – “a candidate’s commitment to lower energy costs” – was more important to them. Only 41% indicated that they favored candidates committed to “protecting the environment and natural resources.”
Notably, the result was the same among independent voters. Of respondents who listed their political affiliation as “independent,” 59% said energy costs were more important, while 41% favored environmental protection.
In addition, 81% of Pennsylvanians polled stated that they were “concerned about the future availability of affordable energy in the United States.” Similarly, 80% said their household energy bills increased in the past two years.
Seventy percent of the poll’s respondents indicated that things in the country “have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track.” Meanwhile, only 22% said that the country was “going in the right direction.”

Observers widely consider Pennsylvania to be one of the small handful of states that will decide the outcome of November’s election between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.
In 2016, Trump won Pennsylvania by 0.7% – flipping the state that had voted Democratic in the past six presidential elections. In 2020, Biden carried Pennsylvania by a 1.2% margin.
Pennsylvania is second among states in natural gas production after Texas, accounting for just shy of 22% of the country’s total share in 2022.
The Daily Wire reported:
When asked who they trusted more with energy, 37% [of the poll’s respondents] said they backed Trump, 34% supported Biden, 15% were undecided, 4% favored Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and the rest were split by a variety of other candidates who have since dropped out of the 2024 race.
The Commonwealth Foundation’s senior manager of energy policy, André Béliveau, weighed on the poll results.
“Pennsylvania voters have made it clear they prioritize energy affordability and reliability over climate alarmism,” he stated. “Likewise, Pennsylvanians overwhelmingly support economic freedom and oppose excessive government regulations and red tape.”
The poll comes as the Biden administration attempts to aggressively crack down on gas vehicles, in a series of policy proposals many have called an “electric vehicle (EV) mandate.”
