CV NEWS FEED // A watchdog initiative blasted The New York Times after one of its reporters “fact checked” former President Donald Trump for stating that Democratic nominee Kamala Harris supports taxpayer-funded sex-change operations on imprisoned migrants.
“Last week the [Times] issued another partisan ‘fact check’ stating that the claim that [Harris] supports transgender operations for illegals in prison ‘needs context,’” wrote the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday. “It needs no context. We released documents showing her new policy already allows for it.”
The Project referenced a June 2023 memorandum from the Health Services Division of the the Biden-Harris administration’s Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP), an agency of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
The memo is titled “Gender-affirming care of transgender and gender nonbinary persons.”
In its “purpose” section, the memo states that it “provides recommendations for the medical management and treatment of transgender and gender nonbinary federal inmates.”
At the September 10 debate between him and Harris, Trump said of his rival: “Now she wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison.”
The same day, Times health policy reporter Sheryl Gay Stolberg wrote in an entry as part of the publication’s “Debate Fact Check” that this statement by the former president “needs context.”
Stolberg elaborated that while Harris indicated she supported using taxpayer dollars to fund such operations five years ago, her current presidential campaign has “distanced” itself from that earlier stance:
Trump is referring to Harris’s response to a 2019 American Civil Liberties Union questionnaire, in which she said she supported using taxpayer funds to give access to gender-affirming care to transgender and nonbinary people, including those in immigration detention and prison.
…
In an interview on Tuesday morning on Fox News, Michael Tyler, Harris’s campaign communications director, sought to distance Harris from the statement without disavowing it. “That questionnaire is not what she is proposing or running on,” Tyler said.
In addition, Stolberg acknowledged that “CNN reported on the survey” the day before the debate in a segment featuring hostess Erin Burnett and reporter Andrew Kaczynski.
However, Stolberg’s fact check did not mention the memo cited by the Oversight Project showing that the Biden-Harris administration supported such policies as late as 2023.
Also on Tuesday, The Daily Wire’s Mary Margaret Olohan reported that the FBOP “has about 22,000 foreign nationals in its custody … and it appears that all of these prisoners are eligible for taxpayer-funded gender transitions.”
Olohan added:
Asked about whether it would provide a gender transition surgery for an illegal immigrant, however, a spokeswoman for the federal prison system, Emery Nelson, said the Bureau under Harris is “committed to providing all incarcerated individuals a safe and humane environment, including providing gender-affirming housing and medical care as appropriate.”
The FBOP would not share how many federal prisoners have requested trans procedures.
>> AD CAMPAIGN HIGHLIGHTS HARRIS’ ROLE IN PUSHING ‘TRANS SURGERIES ON KIDS <<
This week, CatholicVote launched a new ad campaign exposing Harris’ support for subjecting minor children to taxpayer-funded “transgender” surgeries.
The ads will run in the swing states of Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and specifically target Catholics and voters with children.
CatholicVote President Brian Burch stated on Monday that “Thousands of trans surgeries are happening – on kids – across the country.”
“The Biden-Harris administration is using your tax dollars today to pay for them,” Burch added. “And Kamala Harris wants to expand these medical experiments on kids.”
