CV NEWS FEED // According to a new Axios/Harris poll, a majority of Americans – including a stunning 42% of Democrats – support the mass deportation of migrants illegally in the country.
The poll found that 51% – just over half – of the American general public supports mass deportations. While just over two-thirds (68%) of Republicans support this policy, significant minorities of independents (46%) and Democrats (42%) agree with it as well.
Another surprising finding of the poll is that 45% of Latino respondents and 40% of black respondents indicated that they supported mass-deporting illegal migrants.
Broken down by age, the Baby Boomer generation was the most likely to support the deportations – with 60% of the generation’s respondents saying they were in favor.
Generation X (53% in support) and millennials (48% in support) were more evenly split between supporting and opposing sending back large numbers of illegal migrants to their countries of origin.
Generation Z seemed to be the only age cohort strongly opposed to the measure, with only 35% of its respondents in favor.
The poll surveyed 6,251 adults between last month and this month.
Axios – widely considered to be a left-leaning outlet – stated following its poll’s release: “Americans are open to former President [Donald] Trump’s harshest immigration plans, spurred on by a record surge of illegal border crossings and a relentless messaging war waged by Republicans.”
Meanwhile, Axios added that “Biden so far has failed to shift the narrative,” pointing to another question asked by its poll.
“[Thirty-two percent] of respondents say [the Biden] administration is ‘most responsible’ for the crisis, outranking any other political or structural factor,” Axios noted.
FOX News added:
The poll found that 21% of Americans cited “increased crime rates, drugs and violence” as their biggest concern about the crisis. Eighteen percent said “the additional costs to taxpayers,” and 17% cited a “risk of terrorism and national security.”
Also per Axios, “[a]mid a record number of border crossings, nearly two-thirds of Americans [polled] said illegal immigration is a real crisis, not a politically driven media narrative.”

The Harris Poll Chairman Mark Penn said he “was surprised at the public support for large-scale deportations.”
Penn stated that he thinks a majority of the poll’s respondents are “just sending a message to politicians: ‘Get this under control.’”
He added that the poll should serve as a warning sign for Biden that “efforts to shift responsibility for the issue to Trump are not going to work.”
Penn is also the CEO of Stagwell, the company that owns Harris. As Axios noted, he has worked as a pollster for Democratic former President Bill Clinton.
Conservative journalist Kyle Becker reacted to the poll’s results on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Americans are waking up to the ‘fundamental transformation’ that is devastating the country.”
Becker also took issue with Axios referring to the illegal migrants as “undocumented.” He wrote: “Documentation of their illegal presence is not the issue, but the fact that they are illegally in the country to begin with.”
Columnist Joe Concha also charged Axios of repeating common leftist talking points on immigration.
“[Trump’s immigration plans are] so ‘harsh’ that a majority of Americans support it,” Concha replied to the news source on X. “And the word you’re looking for is ‘illegal’ not ‘undocumented’ immigrants.”
Conservative attorney Marina Medvin appeared to agree: “It turns out that Americans don’t like leftist open border policies after all…”
Abigail Jackson, Communications Director for Sen. Josh Hawley, R-MO, wrote: “Turns out Americans don’t like it when thousands of unknown people cross the border a day [and] commit crimes, take resources away from Americans, and overrun communities.”
