CV NEWS FEED // Our Lady of Grace & St. Joseph Parish in Hoboken, NJ, is set to hold its seventh annual pro-LGBTQ “Pride Mass” on Sunday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m.
The two-church Catholic parish is part of the Archdiocese of Newark.
According to its flyer, the Sunday Mass will take place at the historic Our Lady of Grace Church on Willow Avenue. The Mass is also slated to be live-streamed on the parish’s YouTube channel.
The top of the flyer is outlined with the colors of the LGBTQ “Pride” flag.
Per the flyer and a page on the parish website, the group LGBTQ@Grace will help the parish celebrate the Pride Mass. The parish describes the group as “a faith-sharing community of LGBTQ individuals, along with family and friends.”
Two years ago, local media outlet TAPinto Hoboken described the parish’s fifth annual Pride Mass as “part of an ongoing effort to welcome the LGBTQ community into the church.”
The 2022 article continued: “[T]he Mass is not only a way for the church to show it is proud of LGBTQ parishioners, but also a message about the importance of becoming more inclusive.”
The article went on to quote Fr. Alex Santora, Our Lady of Grace’s pastor, who said:
Our own Cardinal Joseph Tobin led the way in our local church and has supported the parishes that have become more gay-friendly. And Catholics not only get the message but are in the forefront of acceptance
The parish’s website states that its two constituent churches are “two of the most deeply-rooted and oldest Roman Catholic churches in the United States.”
“Our Lady of Grace, founded in 1851, and St. Joseph, founded in 1871, were merged into one parish in 2008,” the website adds.
Earlier this month, the Archdiocese of Newark’s Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart held a funeral service for late Rep. Donald Payne, Jr., D-NJ.
CatholicVote reported that in “his dozen years serving in Congress,” Payne, a Baptist, “compiled a consistently pro-abortion and pro-LGBTQ voting record.”

Cardinal Joseph Tobin has led the archdiocese for over seven years.
On January 20, 2021, he issued a statement congratulating President Joe Biden on his inauguration that day. In the statement, Tobin expressed his “support” for Biden’s “quest to unite the American people at this crucial moment in our history.”
Months earlier, during the contentious 2020 presidential election season, Tobin remarked that “a person in good conscience could vote for Mr. Biden,” but “I, frankly, in my own way of thinking, have a more difficult time with the other option,” President Donald Trump.
Tobin later clarified that he was not endorsing the pro-abortion Democratic candidate.
The cardinal also publicly opposed measures taken by his fellow American bishops to prevent Biden and other pro-abortion self-professed Catholic politicians from receiving Holy Communion in 2021.
He claimed at the time that such measures amounted to “toxic partisan strife.”
