CV NEWS FEED // A Wisconsin father murdered his pregnant ex-girlfriend and their unborn second child after the mother refused to abort the baby.
Reports indicate that Logan Barclay, 23, fatally shot Kiersten Hansen, 22, in the stomach during a mid-April walk through Peace Park in Janesville, WI.
Passersby found the young pregnant woman’s body near the park’s wooded trails on April 17. Police believe the murder occurred the night before.
WKOW noted on April 22: “According to the criminal complaint, Barclay changed his story several times while maintaining he was not ready to be a father the first time and thought the [Hansen] was going to have an abortion.”
Per WKOW, detectives on the case stated that Hansen “decided to keep the baby, which made Logan extremely angry, because he did not want that kind of responsibility.”
“After calling Barclay out for the inconsistency in his story, the complaint shows he admitted to killing the 22-year-old woman,” WKOW added. WKOW is a Madison-based affiliate of ABC.
According to Hansen’s mother, her daughter and the killer were in an on-again, off-again relationship for about two years.
In addition to their deceased unborn baby, Barclay and Hansen also have an infant child who was reportedly eight months old at the time of Hansen’s murder. Per Hansen’s mother, Barclay’s parents currently have custody of the child.
Sources differ on whether the infant is a boy or a girl.
Janesville-based WCLO reported on April 26 that Barclay is “having a hard time finding an attorney.”
“Rock County Court Commissioner Mason Braunschweig agreed to hold off until May 10 on an initial criminal hearing for” the confessed killer, WCLO added.
“[Braunschweig] says a public defender needs more time to find Barclay a defense lawyer skilled to take on what would be a class A murder case,” the local news outlet reported.
LifeNews founder Steven Ertelt cited an existing body of research showing that “homicide, frequently committed by a husband or partner, took more pregnant mothers’ lives than any other cause.”
“These crimes often destroy the lives of the mothers’ unborn babies as well, and a mother’s refusal to have an abortion frequently is a factor,” Ertelt added.
Again from Ertelt:
A 2014 study, “Associations Between Intimate Partner Violence and Termination of Pregnancy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis,” published in the journal “PLOS Medicine,” found that intimate partner violence, including history of rape, sexual assault, contraception sabotage and coerced decision-making, was associated with abortion.
Another study by the Elliot Institute found a high rate of coerced and forced abortions among post-abortive women, as high as 64 percent.
“[Pro-abortion activists] claim abortion is pro-woman, but they’re wrong,” Ertelt wrote on X this week. “It kills babies and hurts women.”
