CV NEWS FEED // According to a recent analysis of public election records, the vast majority of donations made by employees of Executive Branch departments went to Democratic candidates and political action committees (PACs) – including to President Joe Biden’s re-election bid.
The Daily Caller reported Friday that its affiliated news foundation’s analysis of Federal Election Committee (FEC) data found “[o]ver 60% of political donations to prominent political committees made by employees of the federal government’s 15 cabinet-level departments flowed to … Democrats in 2023.”
“Federal employees donated almost $200,000 to Biden’s campaign fundraising arms, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee between January and November 2023,” The Daily Caller continued:
Conversely, federal employees only donated a little over half of that sum, about $116,000, to former President Donald Trump’s campaign committees, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee during that same period.
Notably, the president’s support among federal employees stands in stark contrast to his low approval rating among the general populace.
The Daily Caller further noted that “after enjoying high levels of financial support from federal employees during” the past two presidential election cycles, Biden “has repeatedly given them historically high raises.”
Late last month, the president signed an executive order doling out a 5.2% pay increase for federal employees in 2024, the largest in several decades.
“Biden has given federal workers their biggest pay raise in more than 40 years even as many Americans are finding their salaries worth increasingly less as wages fail to keep up with Bidenflation,” The Western Journal indicated on January 1.
The Daily Signal’s Chief News Correspondent Fred Lucas on Wednesday noted how the implications of a Biden 2021 executive order aimed toward federal employees might influence this year’s upcoming presidential election.
“The Biden administration carved out paid administrative leave to encourage federal bureaucrats and other employees … to volunteer as poll workers,” Lucas reported.
His piece, titled “How Biden’s Executive Order Is Turning Out the Federal Bureaucrat Vote,” was published two days before The Daily Caller’s report was released.
“The administration also requires federal agencies to grant four hours of leave for voting to employees, according to records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management [OPM],” added Lucas.
“They are doing everything they can to defeat Trump,” wrote Wall Street Silver, a popular right-leaning X (formerly Twitter) account in a Thursday post. “The Biden administration carved out paid administrative leave to encourage federal bureaucrats and other employees—seen as a loyal Democrat constituency—to volunteer as poll workers.”
However, The Daily Caller’s Friday reporting also indicated that per FEC data, there was one federal executive department that was a major exception to the rule – the Department of Defense (DOD).
“Trump and Republicans raised significantly more money from DOD employees, about $67,000, than the $20,632 Biden and Democrats raised,” the report continued. “The majority of federal employee donations received by Trump and Republicans came from the DOD.”
“Trump’s lead among individuals working for branches of the armed forces was even larger,” The Daily Caller went on:
Individuals working for the United States Air Force, Marine Corps, Army, Navy and Coast Guard donated about $62,000 to Trump’s fundraising committees and only about $24,000 to Biden’s committees.
This revelation of DOD employees being largely Republican-leaning comes amid controversy surrounding various left-wing policies implemented by the department’s leadership.
Early last year, the DOD instituted a controversial policy authorizing the use of taxpayer money to pay for the abortions of service members and their families. For nearly ten months, Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-AL, protested the policy by placing holds on over 400 military promotions.
Last year, the DOD also briefly instituted a pro-LGBTQ pronoun policy, which they quickly rescinded.
As CatholicVote reported last month: “According to a new nationwide poll from the American Principles Project (APP), nearly three-quarters of veterans think the military has gotten too ‘woke.’”
“Even worse, a quarter of the veterans would tell a young person not to enlist,” Rep. Jim Banks, R-IN, said on the House floor December 13. “And when those veterans were asked to explain why, in their own words, the most common reason was politics.”
