CV NEWS FEED // The Knights of Columbus are urging Catholics to watch a new Eucharistic film called “Jesus Thirsts: the Miracle of the Eucharist,” which is coming to theaters across the country in June.
“In theaters next week only, Jesus Thirsts is a poignant exploration of the Eucharist, the source and summit of Christian life,” the Knights of Columbus stated in an emailed news release. “The film is a celebration of the Eucharist as God’s paramount gift to humanity, uniquely able to satisfy the deepest yearnings of the human heart.”
According to the film’s synopsis, “Jesus Thirsts” takes viewers on a “global journey to rediscover and revive the transformative power of the Eucharist.”
“Deep within each human soul, there exists an intense craving for connection, purpose, and love — a thirst that only God can satisfy,” the synopsis reads. “Yet, the question remains: How does one fulfill this yearning? The Catholic Church teaches that the Eucharist is the most profound means by which God shares Himself with humanity. However, a 2019 Pew Research Study unveiled a concerning reality: only one-third of practicing U.S. Catholics believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.”
The film features interviews with notable Catholic figures like Bishop Andrew Cozzens of the Diocese of Crookston, who is also the chairman of the board of the National Eucharistic Congress. The film also explores the biblical origins of the Eucharist and features stories of lives touched and transformed by Jesus through the Eucharist.
“This exploration makes it unmistakably clear that the Eucharist is not merely a symbol, but is indeed Jesus Christ Himself — fervently desiring to quench our spiritual thirst with His boundless love,” the synopsis reads.
In the news release, the Knights also invited members and Catholics to view the film as part of the National Eucharistic Revival. The film will be in theaters nationwide on June 4, 5, and 6, just slightly more than a month before the National Eucharistic Congress begins in Indianapolis on July 17.
On June 6, the film will be shown with Spanish subtitles.
“With a runtime of just under two hours and two showtimes each day [at] 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., the film is hopefully accessible for families, students, and religious education groups,” the Knights added in the news release. “Each showing also includes a special bonus feature, Our Lady of Guadalupe: Woman of the Eucharist, produced by Knights of Columbus and introduced by Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly.”
