CV NEWS FEED // A state Supreme Court justice thwarted New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s attempt to prosecute two New Yorkers who had used fake vaccine cards to circumvent the city’s stringent mandate.
In his ruling, Justice Brendan T. Lantry also slammed Bragg for his apparent hypocrisy, as he “routinely” dismisses charges of almost all other crimes.
Lantry wrote that the Democratic district attorney moves “nearly daily .. to dismiss significantly more serious counts or entire indictments.”
The New York Post reported that per Lantry, Bragg often shows such leniency in order “to avoid harsher penalties for previously convicted felons or to avoid jeopardizing people’s immigration status.”
The New York Supreme Court justice continued:
These motions submitted [by Bragg and his prosecutors] are made months or even years after the 45-day period has expired to dismiss . . . sexual assaults, drug sales, robbery, burglary, and other violent and non-violent serious felony offenses.
Conservative commentator Collin Rugg similarly drew a contrast between Bragg’s aggressive prosecution of those who dodged the COVID shot and his leniency in a controversial case involving illegal immigrants.
“New York City District Attorney Alvin Bragg is defending his decision to let the illegals go who allegedly beat up NYPD officers,” Rugg wrote on X (formerly Twitter) Saturday.
The January incident occurred near Times Square and was caught on video.
Rugg added that the “illegal immigrants involved in the incident have since reportedly fled to [California].”
Bragg had said in defense of his decision: “There is a presumption of pre-trial non-incarceration for every case except those with charges of homicide or the death of a victim.”
X owner Elon Musk replied approvingly to Rugg’s analysis, adding: “This is insane.”
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-TX, also took Bragg to task over the violent case involving the migrants. “Illegal aliens beat two NYPD cops,” Cruz wrote in a Monday X post. “After they were arrested, NY District Attorney Alvin Bragg released them on bail within hours.”
“As they were leaving jail, they flipped off the entire country,” the senator went on. “That is the image that defines Biden’s presidency.”
Former Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-NY, pointed out that Bragg “didn’t even request bail!”
“As if we needed another reason why the Governor should have fired Bragg as DA by now,” continued Zeldin:
So now this is on [Democratic New York Gov. Kathy] Hochul for tolerating this BS.
I would have told Bragg on Day One as Governor that he was being fired for refusing to enforce the law.
Zeldin was the Republican nominee for New York governor in 2022. He lost a close general election to Hochul in the deep blue state, which usually votes for Democrats by margins of over 20 points.
A video posted to X by the national Republican Party account on Monday shows Bragg refusing to answer multiple reporters’ questions regarding why the violent mob of migrants were released.
Bragg is widely known for his ties to leftist billionaire George Soros.
