CV NEWS FEED // Multiple hospitals, including one in Washington, D.C., are pausing so-called “gender-affirming” procedures on children following an executive order President Donald Trump signed this week against the “mutilation” of children.
The Washington Post reported Friday that “Denver Health in Colorado has stopped providing gender-affirming surgeries for people under age 19 in order to comply with the executive order and continue receiving federal funding.”
The Post added that it is “unclear” if Denver Health would still use “hormone therapy and puberty blockers” on minors.
“In Virginia, VCU Health and Children’s Hospital of Richmond said they have suspended gender-affirming medication and gender-affirming surgical procedures for those under 19 years old,” according to the Post’s report.
A separate Washington Post report noted that Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., “suspended all new prescriptions, refills and medication administration” for “puberty blockers and hormone therapy.”
Trump had declared in his Tuesday order: “Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions.”

“This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation’s history, and it must end,” the president stated in the order, as CatholicVote previously reported.
“Accordingly, it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another,” Trump continued, “and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures.”
Trump’s order directed the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to “take all appropriate actions to end the chemical and surgical mutilation of children, including regulatory and sub-regulatory actions, which may involve … Medicare or Medicaid conditions of participation or conditions for coverage.”
CBS News reported Tuesday that the order “directs that federally-run insurance programs, including TRICARE for military families and Medicaid, exclude coverage for” so-called “gender-affirming care.”
“Medicaid programs in some states cover gender-affirming care,” CBS added. “The new order suggests that the practice could end, and targets hospitals and universities that receive federal money and provide the care.”
The Daily Wire White House Correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan asked White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Friday if Trump is “interested In backing congressional legislation” to “protect children from irreversible transgender procedures.” Olohan and Leavitt are both Catholic.
“Certainly the President would support Congress’s efforts as he has already made that very clear this week,” Leavitt replied.
The press secretary called “the mutilation” and “the chemical castration of young children” a “barbaric practice that the vast majority of Americans do not support for young minor children.”
