CV NEWS FEED // According to reports, a federal grand jury is “reviewing evidence” of allegations that Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams illegally obtained foreign funds for his successful 2021 campaign.
The Daily Wire noted on Sunday that the ongoing investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) “centers around allegations that Adams’ election campaign received illegal campaign contributions from the Turkish government.”
The alleged contributions were possibly made in exchange for “actions taken by Adams,” who “has close ties” to Turkey, according to The Daily Wire.
“The development related to the [Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)] probe into Adams’ 2021 campaign came as sources also revealed that a person connected to the mayor had recently received a subpoena connected to the investigation,” The New York Post reported Friday.
“Adams has not been accused of wrongdoing, however, his campaign has been under investigation since November when federal prosecutors began looking into allegations that the Turkish government illegally funneled money to the mayor’s campaign,” the Post continued:
At least three people in Adams’ circle had their homes raided by federal agents as part of the investigation — including former Turkish Airlines executive Cenk Ocal, who worked on the mayor’s transition team, and City Hall aide Rana Abbasova.

A spokesperson for Adams did not confirm nor deny the grand jury involvement in the federal investigation.

On Saturday, Adams repeatedly claimed that he had “no idea” about the grand jury’s progress.
“I don’t know, I’m not a lawyer,” he told reporters, per the Post. “I’m Eric Adams — the mayor! Ex-cop!”
CatholicVote reported in November of last year that the FBI, along with the New York Police Department (NYPD), raided the home of Brianna Suggs, 25, a Democratic activist who had served as Adams’ fundraiser and director of logistics in 2021.
The Post explained at the time that “[i]nvestigators specifically sought evidence of whether Adams’ campaign conspired with the Turkish government and [a Brooklyn-based] construction company to move foreign cash into [Adams’] campaign accounts by using straw donors.”
“A straw donor is a person or company who illegally makes a donation with someone else’s money – but using their own name,” The Post’s report elaborated.
Also last fall, the FBI confronted Adams and forced him “to give up his cell phones and iPad, which were returned to him several days later,” The Daily Wire indicated.
As his city has become overwhelmed by migrants during the Biden administration, Adams has emerged as a prominent Democratic critic of President Joe Biden’s handling of the crisis at the nation’s southern border.
