CV NEWS FEED // Activists are reportedly planning to “create a little chaos” in Milwaukee next month to protest the Republican National Convention and the politicians attending it.
The Free Press reported that 63 activists—including Freedom Road Socialist organizer Tom Burke, who was investigated by the FBI in 2010 for possible support of terrorism—met on a Zoom call on June 24 to discuss the Convention.
According to the Free Press, Burke called for the activists to “create a little chaos on the streets of Milwaukee” and “get in their faces,” referring to the Republican participants at the Convention.
“It’s looking like Trump is going to win at this point,” Burke said. “But our protests can have an impact on things—we can really mess things up for these rich people, you know?”
Omar Flores, spokesman for a protest group called March on RNC 2024, also encouraged strong opposition to Republican politicians.
“Seeing that Trump might get in, people will know that they can look to us as the real opposition to the Republicans,” he said. “Until we actually defeat the Republican agenda, they’re going to feel scared to show their faces anywhere.”
A graduate philosophy student asked for donations and raised $845 by the time the 90-minute Zoom meeting finished, while a trans individual reportedly said that the protests against “reactionary Republicans” will carry the same message that pro-Hamas demonstrations sent.
