CV NEWS FEED // On Aug. 13, Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Miami welcomed over 35,000 students back to class, marking the first day of the school year with a significant surge in attendance.
Miami News reports that enrollment across the 65 schools has increased by 1,000 students compared to last year’s, a notable jump that has led many schools to place prospective students on waitlists.
Superintendent Jim Rigg attributed this rise to a law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis last year, which allows all K-12 students in Florida to use vouchers for private school tuition, as reported by CatholicVote. The law has made Catholic education more accessible, driving the sharp increase in student numbers.
According to Superintendent Jim Rigg, enrollment has been steadily rising since the voucher law was passed, with this year’s numbers reaching the highest level in over a decade.
“We are moving into growth mode,” Rigg said. “We are actively discussing new schools, either opened or reopened, over the next several years.”
