CV NEWS FEED // Boeing planes have been involved in a string of incidents stemming from various mechanical failures, prompting critics to accuse the aerospace giant of prioritizing political ideology over passenger safety.
“Delta Airlines Boeing 757 jet taxiing on the runway with 184 passengers on board at Atlanta’s international airport was forced to abort takeoff when a nose wheel fell off and parted ways with the stricken flight,” Breitbart reported Wednesday. “The wheel ‘came off and rolled down the hill’ as the flight was waiting to begin its journey.”
X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk is one of the prominent voices who have been tying such incidents to the push for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in hiring processes, including at airlines.
“Do you want to fly in an airplane where they prioritized DEI hiring over your safety? That is actually happening,” Musk stated in a post to his platform two weeks ago.
The New York Post reported at the time that Musk’s “comments followed a nearly-catastrophic Alaska Airlines flight that suffered a fuselage panel blowout” several days earlier.
“Beginning in 2022, the aircraft manufacturer changed its incentive plan from giving executives bonuses based on passenger safety, employee safety, and quality to rewarding them if they hit climate and DEI targets,” the Post continued.
Boeing stated in a corporate filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission:
While our 2021 design incorporated operational performance in the areas of product safety, employee safety and quality, for 2022 we will add two other focus areas critical to our long-range business plan: climate and diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&l)
As other observers have pointed out, Boeing does not seem to be the only aerospace company prioritizing DEI, as well as left-wing environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) principles.
“Spirit Aerosystems is the company that provided Boeing the door plugs, one of which failed,” author James Lindsay wrote on X on the same day Musk made the above remark.
“Boeing prioritizes DEI and ESG in its supply chain (bc of ESG requirements), and Spirit Aero delivers,” Lindsay explained. “DEI and Sustainability are at the top of their careers page.”
