CV NEWS FEED // The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (“BLM”) slammed the Democratic Party for “anointing” Vice President Kamala Harris as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
“Installing Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and an unknown vice president without any public voting process would make the modern Democratic Party a party of hypocrites,” BLM’s X (formerly Twitter) account wrote in a post Tuesday.
The group indicated that just on Monday, one day after Biden dropped out of the race, sources reported that Harris had “secured enough delegates to be the Democratic Nominee.”
That night, as BLM recounted, Harris claimed to have “worked hard to ‘go out and earn this nomination’ as promised” the day before.
“A 24-hour process of talking to party bosses is not democratic, nor is it a process Democrats should be proud of,” BLM stated. “We do not live in a dictatorship. Delegates are not oligarchs.”
The leftist organization called on the Democratic National Committee (DNC) “to create a process that allows for public participation in the nomination process, not just a nomination by party delegates.”
“Now, Democratic Party elites and billionaire donors are attempting to manipulate Black voters by anointing Kamala Harris and an unknown vice president as the new Democratic ticket without a primary vote by the public,” BLM stated in a press release:
This blatant disregard for democratic principles is unacceptable. While the potential outcome of a Harris presidency may be historic, the process to achieve it must align with true democratic values. We have no idea where Kamala Harris stands on the issues, now that she has assumed Joe Biden’s place, and we have no idea of the record of her potential vice president because we don’t even know who it is yet.
“This election process has been a disservice to our communities and to democracy,” BLM emphasized. “Historically, Black people have been loyal Democratic voters, but time and again, the party has taken our votes for granted and prioritized political theatrics over our real needs.”

“We demand an informal, virtual snap primary now that the incumbent president is no longer in the running,” BLM said.
The release continued:
For the past few years, the Democratic Party has proclaimed that “democracy is on the ballot” in an effort to persuade Black voters to participate in the upcoming general election. They have presented this as the most serious election for democracy in our lifetimes. However, democracy isn’t just an ideal to be protected against Republicans; it must also be safeguarded from erosions within the Democratic Party. Calls for “unity” cannot come at the expense of democracy.
“The Democratic party, which has been the loudest in defending democracy, is now poised to commit some of the most undemocratic maneuvering to avoid listening to the will of the voters,” BLM wrote.
The relationship between Harris and BLM has been very different in the past.
In 2020, Harris, then a senator whom Biden soon thereafter picked to be his running mate, publicly supported a bail fund that helped participants in violent riots backed by BLM and other far-left groups.

Harris wrote on X (then known as Twitter) at the time: “If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota.”
FOX News noted: “Harris promoted the bail fund in June 2020 to help bail Black Lives Matter rioters out of jail, but only a fraction of the more than $41 million actually went to freeing rioters.”
While Harris has secured a requisite number of delegates to become the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee, the party’s actual nominee will be confirmed at the Democratic National Convention set to be held in Chicago from August 19 to August 22.
It is still possible that the party ends up nominating a candidate other than Harris.
Before he ended his re-election bid on Sunday and almost immediately endorsed Harris, Biden had been the presumptive Democratic nominee for over three months.
After days of speculation by observers over his wherabouts, the president on Tuesday made his first public appearance since dropping out.
He had achieved a massive majority of delegates by winning almost every Democratic nomination contest in a landslide.

When the president dropped out and backed Harris, many conservatives pointed out that the move contradicted the will of millions of Democratic Primary voters who overwhelmingly voted for Biden – essentially the same argument that BLM would make days later.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-LA, stated in a Sunday X post:
Having invalidated the votes of more than 14 million Americans who selected Joe Biden to be the Democrat nominee for president, the self-proclaimed ‘party of democracy’ has proven exactly the opposite
Harris, having loyally backed Biden during the Democratic Primaries, was not on the ballot. Biden’s only competition at the time consisted of a collection of longshot candidates, with the most well known being Rep. Dean Phillips, D-MN.
