CV NEWS FEED // Leftist operatives are demanding that Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett recuse herself from an upcoming case involving religious freedom and the LGBTQ agenda because the Catholic justice accepts the Church’s teachings on sexuality and marriage.
The group of people calling on Barrett to recuse herself call themselves “survivors” of People of Praise, a network of lay Christians of which the justice is a member.
“They point to Barrett’s former role on the board of Trinity Schools Inc, a private group of Christian schools that is affiliated with the People of Praise,” The Guardian reported:
A faculty guide published in 2015, the year Barrett joined the board, said “blatant sexual immorality” – which the guide said included “homosexual acts” – had “no place in the culture of Trinity Schools”. The discriminatory policies were in place before and after Barrett joined.
“They’re trying to claim that a Supreme Court Justice can’t do her job if she’s Catholic, plain and simple,” said CatholicVote Communications Director Joshua Mercer, pointing out that what the group calls “discriminatory” is just the plain teaching of the Catholic Church. “Call this what it is: anti-Catholic bigotry – and worse, an attempt to normalize that bigotry as a way of barring Christians from having a seat at the table in the highest court.”
The case the group wants to keep Barrett from participating in is 303 Creative LLC vs. Elenis, in which a Christian web designer in Colorado is pleading her right not to create artwork for same-sex “weddings.”
