CV NEWS FEED // Presidential candidate Rep. Dean Phillips, D-MN, denounced the ongoing border crisis as “unmitigated and inexcusable” and released a four-step plan to combat illegal immigration.
“I’ve traveled to our southern border twice to bear witness,” Phillips wrote on X (formerly Twitter) Friday morning. “It’s an unmitigated and inexcusable human crisis, national security crisis, and now constitutional crisis – all preventable with competent leadership.”
“As President, I’ll do so immediately and effectively,” he added.
“The only solution is to raise the bar to deter illegal immigration and lower the bar for legal immigration,” Phillips continued. As president, he wrote that he would create a “[n]ew buffer zone in Mexico,” “[r]eform asylum policy,” “identify and remove undocumented threats already in country,” and create a “[p]athway to citizenship for those already here who pose no security risk.”
In Tuesday’s New Hampshire Democratic primary, Phillips received about 20% of the vote, which as CatholicVote reported was “a stronger showing than many polls had predicted.”
The lawmaker has stated his intention to remain in the race “all the way to the [Democratic National Convention]” which will take place in Chicago this August.
Phillips appeared on CNN the day of the primary, noting he has a “conviction that Joe Biden is going to lose” the general election.
“I believe [Biden’s] unelectable,” the Democrat said. “Polls are showing he’s unelectable. Now I think voters will show that he’s unelectable.”
“My only regret is that my party just doesn’t want to wake up from this delusion,” he said.
