CV NEWS FEED // President Biden recently signed an executive order to promote the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) movement in the federal bureaucracy. The move has received little coverage in the corporate media.
Reporter Tim Meads says the order essentially creates an “army of equity bureaucrats” in the federal government to enforce the principles of critical race theory and gender identity in society.
The Manhattan Institute’s Christopher Rufo condemned the Biden administration’s quiet move, saying it “manipulates language and statistics in order to nationalize the DEI movement, suppress dissent from the new racial orthodoxy, and subvert the Constitution’s promise of equal treatment under the law.”
Citing historical examples of government agencies being weaponized against citizens, Rufo argues that the order mirrors the Soviet Union’s push for political officers charged with maintaining ideological conformity in every sphere of society.
According to Rufo’s own conversations with federal employees, the trainings that DEI conducts on topics like critical race theory or gender theory are designed to push out conservative values, and even conservative employees.
“They say, ‘all of these trainings are designed to make me shut up, to make me back away, to kind of force me out,’” Rufo reports:
And I think that’s essentially what we get. If you have a conservative belief system, a conservative opinion, you want to pursue conservative priorities under a bureaucratic system of DEI, that’s going to be phased out, disincentivized, and then filtered out, for example, through the hiring process.
Rufo further explains that DEI jobs are “fake ideological and political jobs” that only work to condition companies both in the public and private sectors into accepting radical agendas and to weed out any dissent.
“They’re not helping people,” says Rufo. “They’re not innovating. They’re not creating new products and services.”
While Biden’s new executive order lists its objectives in neutral terms like “identify funding opportunities for community- and faith-based organizations working in and with underserved communities,” Rufo says that in actuality it will simply filter billions of federal dollars into programs meant to badger Americans into conformity with controversial progressive positions.
This can be accomplished by bureaucrats running an “inside-outside game” that operates through identity-based nonprofits and organizations that will not be subjected to the same scrutiny or mandatory Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests as everyone else.
The Daily Wire reports that these DEI “career officials” will be difficult to fire due to strong union protections and other lengthy processes created to keep them in office beyond Biden’s term. The outlet also mentions that the order says the DEI workforce will assist in a “‘staffing and data collection capacity’ and will serve as an ‘advisory and coordination role on priority agency actions.’”
Rufo argues that the executive order’s priorities are a form of “anti-racist discrimination” under which people can be categorized by race or sexual orientation and then be discriminated against if, for instance, a department is too white or not diverse enough. “You see this in corporations, in universities, in government programs,” says Rufo, “that they’re actually not serving everyone equally as individuals.”
“This move by President Biden to permeate society with government-enforced, radical ideologies delivers a type of socialist dream rather than any semblance of creating equality,” said CatholicVote Communications Director Joshua Mercer. “Rather than encouraging Americans to treat each other with respect and fairness, this administration is constantly sending the message that you don’t matter if you don’t conform.”
