CV NEWS FEED // A recent analysis by State Financial Officers Foundation (SFOF) Executive Vice President Noah Wall showed that the recent trend of urban crosswalks being painted in “pride” colors is likely not the result of spontaneous decisions by local municipalities but the work of a national LGBTQ activist group.
Wall wrote on X (formerly Twitter) Monday that he noticed the surge of rainbow “pride” crosswalks popping up in cities across the country “and haven’t seen sufficient explanation as to why it’s happening, so I decided to do some research.”
“Most of the news about these crosswalks has been about Municipalities conducting manhunts to track down people who commit ‘hate crimes’ by leaving skid marks over them,” he noted.
He went on to explain that a “less well known program” of the leftist Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is its Municipal Equality Index (MEI). The program tracks how compliant cities are to tenets of the LGBTQ movement.
Wall elaborated that the MEI’s “goal is to make local governments the leading edge of the ‘Queer’ agenda.”
For local governments to get a perfect score, he wrote, “cities need to push the envelope of their authority – to go beyond what the state allows them to do.”
He posted a screenshot of what appears to be a report from the HRC discussing the 10th edition of the program, which was released back in 2021.
The report explicitly refers to painting “rainbow-striped crosswalk[s]” as an action that can result in a more positive MEI score for a city.
“As the MEI turns ten, it is proud to be supporting and amplifying these actions,” the report stated. “Sometimes they’re flashy, like a rainbow-striped crosswalk.”
Wall also posted a screenshot of the report showing that an “LGBTQ+ Liaison/Task Force” in a city’s police department could result in 10 points being added to a city’s MEI score.
Another screenshot Wall posted showed that an addition of five points was up for grabs if a city had an “LGBTQ+ Liaison” in its mayor’s office.
“In sum, if you see your city government advancing the Queer agenda – it likely is because of the [HRC],” Wall concluded on X. “It’s definitely not organic.”
Per his X bio, Wall currently serves as SFOF’s Executive Vice President for Policy and Government Affairs and the Executive Director SFOF Action.
On its website, SFOF states that its “mission is to drive fiscally sound public policy, by partnering with key stakeholders, and educating Americans on the role of responsible financial management in a free market economy.”
