CV NEWS FEED // President-elect Donald Trump on Monday endorsed Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-LA, to retain the gavel for one more term, four days before his colleagues in the chamber are set to vote.
The incumbent Johnson, a conservative Christian, was re-nominated as the House Republican Conference’s candidate for the speakership in November.
“Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man,” Trump wrote in a post to TRUTH Social. “He will do the right thing, and we will continue to WIN.”
“Mike has my Complete & Total Endorsement,” Trump stated, adding: “MAGA!!!”
Also in his message, Trump stressed the need for the incoming federal government to deliver solutions for the American people as quickly as possible.
“LETS NOT BLOW THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY WHICH WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN,” Trump wrote. “The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all of the destructive policies of the last Administration.”
Trump called the GOP “the Party of COMMON SENSE,” arguing that its common sense was “a primary reason that we WON, in a landslide, the magnificent and historic Presidential Election of 2024.”
Shortly after Trump posted his endorsement message, Johnson thanked him.
“Together, we will quickly deliver on your America First agenda and usher in the new golden age of America,” Johnson told Trump in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “The American people demand and deserve that we waste no time. Let’s get to work!”
Terry Schilling, president of the socially conservative think tank the American Principles Project (APP), agreed with Trump’s move, writing on X that Johnson “has my full support.”
“Mike Johnson has probably one of the most difficult jobs of any speaker in US history,” Schilling pointed out. “He has managed to get several key wins and votes on issues important to the American family – including defunding sex changes for kids in the NDAA.”
Schilling was likely referring to an action Johnson had taken earlier this month to protect children from being subjected to “transgender” procedures in Fiscal Year 2025 in the language of an annual defense spending bill.

On Friday, Johnson is running for re-election to his first full term as speaker.
Assuming all Democrats oppose him as expected, he needs the votes of almost all of the members of the razor-thin House Republican majority – something that is almost certainly more likely after Trump’s endorsement.
Johnson was already elected unanimously by Republicans before when he first ascended to the speakership in October 2023. He replaced his predecessor Kevin McCarthy, R-CA, who was ousted via an unprecedented mid-term motion to vacate.
