CV NEWS FEED // This week, the House plans to consider two bills aimed at defending against potential gas stove bans. The Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act (GSPFA) and the Save Our Gas Stoves Act (SOGSA) include provisions to help stave off regulatory restrictions on gas stoves.
As part of the Biden administration’s pledge to achieve “zero greenhouse gas emissions” by 2030, officials with the Biden Department of Energy and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently suggested limiting the purchase of new gas stoves.
The GSPFA would prohibit the CPSC from using federal funds “to regulate a gas stove as a banned hazardous product under section 8 of the Consumer Product Safety Act,” and from implementing any policy that would prohibit the sale of gas stoves or substantially raise their prices. The SOGSA would similarly bar the Secretary of Energy from implementing rules related to gas stoves.
The White House and the Consumer Product Safety Commission Chair have denied that the administration is seeking to ban gas stoves.
