CV NEWS FEED // Fr. Mathew Kudilil tragically died on Aug. 15 from an electric shock from a flag pole that accidentally touched a live wire during Independence Day celebrations in Mulleria, India, according to recent reports.
Fr. Kudilil, vicar of Infant Jesus Church, was attempting to unfurl the tangled national flag when the flag pole hit a power line, according to news outlet Onmanorama. The assistant vicar, Sebin Joseph, was by Fr. Kudilil when the accident happened and “was thrown away on the impact of the shock.”
Fr. Kudilil died on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
According to Matters India, Fr. Kudilil, who was 29, was ordained a priest three years ago and had served at various churches since. News outlet daijiworld reported that Fr. Kudilil “was well-known among the faithful for his philanthropy, empathetic nature, and exceptional preaching skills.”
According to Matters India, his funeral will be on Aug. 17.
