CV NEWS FEED // A doctor is suing Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon after the governor removed him from the state’s Board of Medicine for sending a letter expressing his support of a proposed bill to the state’s House of Representatives.
Liberty Justice Center, which is representing radiologist Dr. Eric Cubin, explained in an August 29 press release that Cubin is currently a member of the Wyoming Medical Society (WMS), an organization “that claims to represent the interests of physicians across the state.” Earlier this year, WMS expressed opposition to a proposed bill, “Chloe’s Law,” that would restrict doctors from conducting “gender-transition” surgeries and prescribing hormone therapy for children. The bill went into effect on July 1.

Cubin, unlike WMS, supported the bill.
He tried to reach out to WMS about the lack of accurate representation of members’ views, but WMS “repeatedly ignored his concern,” according to the press release, which explained:
On February 28, Dr. Cubin sent an email to the Wyoming House of Representatives to express his personal support for Chloe’s Law and to state that the WMS’s public opposition to the bill did not represent the perspective of all Wyoming physicians.
In April, Gordon removed Cubin from the Wyoming Board of Medicine, “explicitly citing” Cubin’s email to the House in explaining the removal, according to the press release.
Liberty Justice Center filed the lawsuit against Gordon in the U.S. District Court for the District of Wyoming, in the Cheyenne Division.
“I had been misrepresented by the Wyoming Medical Society and had no choice but to speak up for what I believe to be right,” Cubin stated in the press release.
Chloe’s Law passed state legislation and Gordon signed it into law in March.
“I urged our legislators to be circumspect about the information they were being provided and cautious about what they allow physicians to do to kids in our state—something that is now the law across Wyoming,” Cubin added.
